I am very new to knitting and I am trying to understand a pattern. Can someone explain to me what the following means?

[K2tog] around to last 1 (0, 1) st, k1 (0, 1) – 8
(8, 9) sts.

[P2tog] around to last 0 (0, 1) st, k0 (0, 1) – 4
(4, 5) sts.

Thanks for your help

Hi Cassandra, your pattern has 3 different sizes, for example small (med., large) so if you are working on size small or large you should only have
1 stitch left after doing the K2tog. you knit this last stitch, and according to the size you are working on you would have either 8 or 9 stitches left on the needle.
Same goes for the purl side, Hope this helps
