This has been a "trying" week! On Wednesday the cable for the back door of my delivery truck broke...meaning I had to unload and load everything from the passenger side door - NOT FUN.

Came home Thursday night to find the the valence portion of my vertical blinds across my patio door came down sometime during the day. Why? I have no idea. Several parts shattered, down with it came my drapes. Swept up the mess and figured I'd have to purchase a whole new set on Friday after work.

Yesterday I got bit by a dog on the route I was doing. The dog jumped a fence and nailed me by grabbing my knee cap and twisting. The owner is the most disagreeable person on earth. I reported it to the police, who went right to the woman's home with an Animal Control officer in tow.

She's a dog hoarder, none of the dogs had city licenses, she wouldn't provide proof of up to date shots or even provide the name of her veterinarian nor would she provide the officers with proof of liability insurance (required by that town). In fact she became so combative that she was arrested, cited for 7 different offenses and her dogs were ALL impounded. After the dog bit me I retreated to the safety of my truck and called her on my cell phone, explaining that her dog bit me and requesting she come outside to get her package. I've now received 2 harassing and threatening phone calls from her and her son...more police reports!

So after work, limping around with a swollen and bruised knee. I went to the local home improvement store. Great, you can just purchase the "header/valence" part of the vertical blinds....one little problem though, I drive a Mini Cooper! Drove home with that thing sticking out of my sun roof! Then I sat down and had a glass of wine! Well OK more than one glass.

What a week!

Surely hope you are feeling better today (and no hangover) Sounds like that dog owner really needs a reality check. Did you get the bite checked out medically just in case?

Now prop the leg and knit. :) :)

Blessings.

Sounds like you also needed a paper towel and a 6-12 piece variety pack of chocolates to go with the wine/drink.

I didn't go to the hospital, no broken skin. Thank God for very durable uniform slacks! Just bruised. I was working in a town 60 miles away.

The police officer gave me two of those chemical ice packs (you pull a strip and it mixes two chemicals that get cold), those really helped.

Today it's just bruised and the swelling is way down. Very nice Police Officer, he keeps them in his squad car. It was kind of funny he said he kept them in there for car accidents but mostly hands them out to kids who have fallen off of bicycles. I think I met the real "Officer Friendly".

Thank you all for your sympathy. Before I drove away I snapped a photo of the home, the inadequate fence and all the dogs. My boss had me send the photo to her cell phone, she sent it to her computer and printed it out. Then she had me mark where I was when the bite took place....so I drew a crying stick figure in the driveway with a big round knee and lines radiating out from the knee (between two cars) and a stick figure dog with HUGE teeth next to me.

She started laughing and told me she just wanted an X to represent me and a smaller x for the dog.

I am waiting for the injury to get worse over the next 24 - 48 hours but it wasn't too bad when I got up this morning. Though I'm NOT going to be wearing shorts for at least a week.

Just in case..you usually have 30 (?) days to report it as a Workman's Comp case. Your employer only has 24 or 48 hours, once they are told. If they don't report it, they get fined.

I'm well versed in reporting...3.5 years ago I was so badly attacked by a dog on my route that I had to be removed by ambulance and was out of work over 6 weeks.

I reported the incident within 3 minutes of it happening yesterday and my boss entered it in as a work related injury with an incident report last night. She included the photo of the property and a photo of my knee.

Sadly our employees get bitten quite often - as do postal workers.

If this injury ends up causing a problem, workman's comp will pay all medical and any time lost - THEN they will go after the homeowner on this. The case 3.5 years ago cost the dog owner 30K in medical bills...plus my wages, in addition to a few hundred dollars in out of pocket expenses for me.

Sorry you had to go through this...I know about dog bites, but from our own dog...we have one that spent her first year in the woods...so she is slightly agressive IF you scare her or if you try to take things away from her that she wants....woke her up one day...not realizing she was asleep and she "clamped" my had so hard, thought she had broke a bone...Slightly dangerous job you have...and I am an animal lover...but we make sure our animals are away from anyone that they could hurt...and they all are vaccinated.....

The medical costs alone for postal workers is in the millions yearly! That doesn't include other delivery people, meter readers, sanitation workers and utility workers.

Last year we had a driver severely injured when a resident opened her door and let her pittbull out. Our driver not only suffered severe bites but shoulder injuries when the dog drove her to the ground.

I've had people say "oh you should carry dog biscuits"...why should I buy dog biscuits when I don't own a dog? Isn't it the owners responsibility to provide treats for their dogs?

This woman yesterday had a great many dogs inside a fence that was meant for nothing more than surrounding a garden.

Hard to understand someone saying 'carry dog biscuits' - are you supposed to say to doggie as he charges 'wait a minute, let me get a treat for you'???
So many irresponsible pet owners in our world.
Hope all goes well with your knee.

Oh, you poor thing, you have had it bad. Try driving a school bus and you open the door to let a child on and the next thing you have this little dog that comes running out the house door after the child and lands in YOUR LAP, just snapping away. Thank god he didn't get me before I grabbed him. Get better soon.

Poor you - hope the knee improves quickly. It could have worse - a postman in our town had to report a house where he had been bitten and the post office now refuse to deliver there - only problem he was bitten by a cat!!!!

Seriously though, hope all goes well with the injury and that you have no trouble from the lady's relative.

Please take care and rest. Delayed shock may set in, also some injuries, especially tears to the muscles etc may take a while to manifest.

But people should take more responsibilities for their animals. We have just had severe some would say draconian animal control legislation introduced. This was the result of children and adults being severely mauled by dogs. One child died as a result of being savagely attacked. We have always had a limit on the number of dogs that a householder can own. Now they have introduced the dangerous dog category and these animals must be neutered in order to stop indiscriminate breeding. These dogs are not allowed to road free or threaten or terrorises people. The owner of a savage dog or any dog that attacks a person can now face up to $10,000 in fines.

I hope you do recover quickly. You job is such that you do run this risk. I do not think I could face an angry dog and I do not believe taking dog biscuits would be of any benefit whatsoever. Dogs are teritorial beasts and will defend their home. The owners should train their dogs not be be agressive.

Christine..that is hysterical. I don't know if Officer Friendly is single or not..he's got to be about 30 years younger than I am...but a real nice fellow.
So, you have a problem with having a hunky toy boy in tow. Nah, on second thoughts, if he is so delicious he is probably gay. All the hunky ones seem to be so inclined these days.
