while trying to figure out my bag pattern, a friend wanted a beret made. So after looking at, trying different patterns, ripping out many rows, I came up with my version of 2 different patterns. Yes I know this is a knitting forum, but what the hey! :)

Well since I had to frog the first pattern many times (the hat was way to big) I had to meld 2 patterns and throw some stitches of mine in as well. So here goes
With I hook and Simply Soft Party
Ch 3, 12 sc into 1st ch , sl st to join in 1st sc (12 sc)

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 2 dc in same st, and in each st around. Join with sl st. (24 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 3, *miss next 2 sts, sc in next st, ch 3. Repeat from *all around. Join with sl st. (8 loops)

Rnd 3: Sl st into loop, ch 3, 3 dc in same loop, work 4 dc in each of next 7 loops. Join with sl st.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st. Repeat from * all around. Join with sl st. (48 sts)

Rnd 5: Ch 3, (counts as first dc) dc in each st all around. Join with sl st.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * all around. Join with sl st. (72 sts)

Rnd 7: Same as rnd 3 (24 loops)

Rnd 8: Sl st in first loop, ch 3, 2 dc in same loop, 3 dc in next loop and in each loop all around. Join with sl st.

Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * all around. Join with sl st. (96 sts)
Rnd 10: Ch 3, dc in each st , join with sl st . (96 sts)

Rnd 11: Ch 1, sc in same st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * all around. Join with sl st.

Rnd 12: Same as rnd 3. ( 42, loops)
Rnd 13: Ch3, dc in same st, dc in each st around
Rnd 14,15,16: dc in each st around.
Rnd 17: ribbing. Ch3,* front post dc around 1st dc, bpdc in next, repeat around sl st to 1st dc
Rnd 18: Ch 3, *Fpdc around fpdc from previous row, bpdc around next, repeat around , fasten off. Hope I wrote this so it's understandable!

Hey! Look at the top of the page - if yours is like mine it says knitting and crochet forum. We all work with "yarn" [or thread or ribbon etc.] I think it's great you can figure out how to make something by looking at it. The only time I did that, it was a scarf!! That's a lovely hat. Crochet is better for some items and knit for others. I love to do both! They are sister crafts.

duh! So it does! That's what I get for not really reading everything! Like Martyr said some things are suited for knitting others for crochet they both have their merits.
