I just knit a rectangle that would fit over the dollar store ones and sewed up the sides. Then I extended one side of the top opening to make a flap and attached a chain loop at the center (crochet). I positioned a button on the opposite/front side. Then I crocheted a strap and secured it on the opposite end. You could also add extra embellishments like flowers if you wish.
