I knit this from a vintage pattern my customer found amongst her grandmother's things. Her grandmother, who passed away 20 years ago, had originally knit this family heirloom. My customer sent it to a dry cleaner and it came back totally destroyed.

How sad is that. It was wonderful of you to recreate the shawl but it must have hurt her to see the heirloom piece destroyed.

I think where the cleaners went wrong is not being knowledgeable enough to tell the customer because of the shawl's age, it would be best to handwash the garment.
