To those of you who asked about one hand knitting. There are videos and gadgets but I have pretty much taught myself. At first I supported the left needle between my knees. Now my left hand will support the needle after much body manipulation. Right now I can cast on, knit garter stitch and cast off. My goal is to do more but truly don't think I can tackle sashay yarn. My promlem is what to tell this lady who bought me the yarn. Should I return it? She has never worked with it. thanks to all of you who responded to my previous letter. Jean

I think you should tell her what you are telling us. That you love the yarn and the fact that she gave it to you but right now it is beyond your ability to use and ask "would you like to return it for something you can use?" or perhaps in the future one of you will be able to knit or crochet with it.
Don't stress on it- I'm sure your friend will understand if you explain.

That is wonderful I have problems knitting with two hands. Just goes to show you you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

I also knit with one hand. I can't seem to use the 2 hands. I guess ( I know) I am not co-ordinated to do that and I've been knitting for 20+ years. And anything I makes comes out great. I can sit for hours and watch someone knit with both hands.

Perhaps if she knits you could explain the situation and ask if she could make the yarn into a scarf for you. I'm sure she would understand. In fact I sent a skien of that type yarn to my stepmother for Christmas and told her if she
couldn't figure out the pattern send it back and I would make it for her. Or maybe another friend could make it up for you. Good luck

Have you seen the knitting belts? The go around your waist and have holes in them so you can stick your needle through them. This stalizes ONE needle and you can just knit with the other hand. Hope this helps

I taught myself how to knit one handed after I had stroke like symtoms. I jammed the left needle between my body and and my left arm. Just keep plodding on at your own pace. I havn't heard of sashay yarn, but give it a go. If it takes you a bit longer to knit with it so what. I'm sure you friend will appreciate it all the more when you have finished. I also used my sewing machine with the material in my mouth to pull it tight I looked funny but I got there.I painted with a 2" paintbrush with an elastic band round my hand. All I can say is keep on going and enjoy yourself even if it does take you longer than it use too. Angela x
