For info ... Albert Smith's Culinary Adventures
a new topic has been posted on Book Club main page which you won't have been alerted to.
Stablebummom recommends a book about a retired detective travelling round the UK.....
thanks

This is the post from Stablebummom:
"Yes, I do read, in spurts because when I get started I don't stop! I get my books on Amazon and read them on my Kindle App on my iPad. I never thought I'd prefer this but well, here I am. I signed up for Prime Books because I can read as many as I want for the monthly fee. In the past year, I have read many series! I shudder to think of the number. Well, I just started a series "Albert Smith's Culinary Adventures". He is a 78-year-old retired Chief Detective in the UK. He acquired a GSD flunk-out from the police training program. Albert is traveling all through the UK visiting towns made famous by their specialty food, i.e., Wilton for cheese, Lancashire for their Hotpot. I find the stories entrancing and hilarious at times. Especialy when Rex, the GSD, make comments about humans and their foibles. Police/detective/Dog? Yes, please I'll read it, and the next one, and the next one, and..........I'm on the 9th in the series now!
PS: I only buy the ones that are free with Amazon Prime."

"Where the Crawdads Sing"

There has been much discussion over some long while about this book. I read it fairly recently.

My question is: has anyone seen the film?
Sadly I didn't realise it was being shown when I was on a long haul flight and missed it!!
So am left wondering ... thank you
I loved this book and recently saw the movie. I much preferred the book. The movie just felt like a bare-bones version of the book. None of the characters and relationships seemed very deep. I kept thinking “would this be interesting (or make sense) if I hadn’t read the book?”

In general I usually prefer the book over the movie, but in this instance there was a big difference IMO. Id love to know how others feel about the book vs movie. …or even how they liked the movie having not read the book.

Thank you so much mea - this is most interesting. I know exactly what you mean about watching a film without first reading the book in order for it to make sense..
I look forward to hearing from others about the film. How I wished I'd realised it was showing on my long haul flight!
thank you again for your post and comments.

I probably read Where the Crawdads Sing a year and a half ago, so I was thrilled to see there was a movie made. I must say I enjoyed the movie! Of course, books are always better as there’s so much more detail, but I know that when I walk into the movie. I don’t think a movie could ever be that detailed or it would be hours long! Anyway, maybe in this instance it would be better to see the movie, then read the book. I would like to read what others think as well!

When the book first came out, I tried to read it. More than once and I simply got bogged down. Maybe it was the space I was in at the time. Anyway, last night my guy and I watched the movie on Netflix. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed it! I wasn't sure he would like it, but it turned out he might have liked it even more than I did.

Y’all made me realize (in general) I’ve watched the movie after liking a book, but I don’t think I’ve ever gone back and read the book after liking a movie. I’ll have to give that a try.

Nothing is keeping my interest lately. I just started reading The Next Ship Home: A Novel of Ellis Island, by Heather Webb. So far, so good. I’m hopeful.

I know what you mean by nothing keeping your interest. I go through that too. The Next Ship Home will keep your interest. It is a good book.

Barbeevw has posted a new topic our main page about this book so copying here as no email alert will have been sent to you. Many thanks.

"Has anyone read this book yet? If so, what did you think? It is historical fiction about a woman who worked for J P Morgan. She was Portugese and African American, passing as white. The two authors, both women, one white and one black, seem uniquely situated to bring this story to light. Amazon is scheduled to deliver a copy to me next week and I am eagerly looking forward to reading it."

I look forward to hearing from Book Club members. thanks.

Normally, I’m not too interested in getting involved in a series, but I just recently heard about The Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer. The first book in the series is Only Time Will Tell. Has anyone heard of them or read any? It looks good and of course, I don’t have to continue with them.

Thanks again to whomever recommended The Magnolia Palace by Fiona Davis. i just finished this book yesterday and enjoyed every minute.

I’ve now started Our Last Days in Barcelona by Chanel Cleeton. I’m only 13% along and still struggling to stay interested.

Happy New Year everyone, and happy reading. I read some articles recently about the many benefits of active reading as we grow older. It’s nice to know that something I enjoy so much is good for me too. (I’m trying to feel the same about exercise but so far no luck 😊).
