Hi - new topic posted on main page from whiteakermary56:
"Can somebody tell me where all of the thrift stores books on knitting, crochet went. I went to two thrift stores in my neighborhood, and I only found one or two books. What is going on?"

You will not have received an email for this, so am copying here. thanks. sdftrace
With respect ... To my mind, this post really should have been moved to Main. Poster might get more helpful responses there. Just my own humble opinion.

eta: All that being said, it's possible members of our book club may have some helpful ideas to share too 🌼

The topic is still on Main...
emails are not sent out when a topic is posted on Main, always been this way, hence the copying over.
The topic can remain open on Main without a problem.

I'd like to recommend Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. A very moving story about siblings who were stolen from their home and put in an orphanage, and how some of them were able to reconnect years later. The Tennessee Children's Home Society was a real place where terrible atrocities actually occurred. Thankfully, it was finally fully exposed and shut down, but it took a very long time.

I've just finished Winter Grave by Peter May. It's his latest. It's a detective story set in Scotland in 2051. Scotland is now independent and suffering from the drastic effects of climate change, more snow, cold temperatures and never-ending rain. A body is found in the ice and Cameron Brodie has to leave Glasgow to be present at the post mortem. Any more will spoil the story! It was a real page turner.

Ooh goodie! I’m a big fan of Peter May. I’ve just finished LESSONS by Ian McEwan - thanks for the recommendation. STILL LIFE was such a hard act to follow but as always McEwan came up to the mark. I’ve just started the new Kate Atkinson - SHRINES OF GAIETY, early days and lots of characters to get my head round but so far it’s shaping up nicely. Thank God for books and knitting through these dog days of winter.

Over the last couple of years I read one or two of Peter May's older or stand-alone novels that I haven't liked as much as some of his others, so it was good to find this one.
yes, I agree that some of the stand alones got pretty mundane. None of them beat his Lewis trilogy which was my intro to him thus spoiling me for all the others! Good to know his latest is a good one.

Oh that was such a good book. I loved it and it broke my heart knowing it was based on true stories. Excellent read!

I’m getting close to finishing Lucy By the Sea by Elizabeth Strout. Of course, my library just called to say two of my three requests are in - Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger and Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. Has anyone read these? Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver is the third to come in. I must say, Before We Were Yours looks like one I’d really enjoy! Way too many books - what a predicament to be in, right!
