I started knitting a pair of socks using Patons Stretch Socks yarn. Has anyone ever use this type of yarn? I don't know if I'm suppose to keep my stitches tight (and possibly stretch the yarn as I am knitting) or knit loosely? I got the yarn on sale, and I'm debating whether I like it.

Yes, I've used it for 1 pair. Just knit normal, don't stretch it. It does feel weird knitting with it. I was afraid I wouldn't like/wear the socks when done but they feel just fine and dandy.

I'm not rushing out to buy more it of, though.

I would agree with everyone else, just knit normally. I made one pair of socks with it and love them.
Deifinately just knit normally -- I've made quite a few pair of sock, some fingerless gloves with it -- They have worn well.
I still like other sock yarns better, Opal and Sockotta to name two -- but I like the Patons stretch for my summer socks --

Take Joy,

I made a pair of socks with this yarn. The first sock I had to frog because I pulled the yarn too tight when knitting and the sock wouldn't fit. The 2nd time I knitted it I must have gotten a little too loose because the sock won't stay up, however when I made my 3rd sock I finally must have gotten it right because now I have 1 sock that fits and one that always falls down. I also don't like the way it feels on my feet so I rarely wear that pair of socks.

That sounds like what I'm doing right now. I started stretching the yarn, then loosely knitting the yarn. I don't like the feel of it. I guess I'll frog it and start over trying to knit normally. (I don't think I'll buy this yarn anymore)

I have made socks with it you do not stretch the yarn as working it. If you do then the project will come out way tight and smaller. Just relax it. And this yarn is great to make head bands among other things.

Pretty much my experience too. I just tried to keep a medium even tension on the yarn while knitting...too loose or too tight and I don't think we'd like the fabric that resulted. In fact I didn't know how many balls it would take for a pair, so I bought a 2nd ball. Finished the socks with 1 ball and when I returned the 2nd my LYS was closeing out of their stock.. , leaving me with the opinion that as an experiment they weren't a huge success. But I wear mine and they feel Ok on the foot. Joan 8060

my last pair of socks I used a stretchy sock yarn.. first off.. DON'T REWIND IT! use it from the outside just as it is.. and I would try to knit normal... don't stretch it out after awhile you forget how stretchy it is and you can move along nicely.. I have to say I did mine on size US2 and they seem a bit thick and loose.. but I knit loose anyway...also I used a different brand so yours might be thinner..
I rewound mine and then when I tried to do a center pull I made a giant knot... grrrr... so I rewound it again and loosened up the fibers so much that it was a bear to work with... its not the yarns fault.. I just ruined it.. and that might be why they seem thick to me also...

The wristlets I posted, the first prize ones!! We're made in the stretch s.ock yarn. I have also made anklet socks and a beanie hat. I do like knitting with it. As above, don't knit too tight, and don't rewind. It was a pleasure to knit with once I got used to it feeling loose!
