I was just answering a post from Stablebummom about the series of books she is reading as she recuperates from her amazing hip replacement. I had just written a lengthy post to find it couldn't be submitted because 'Topic is closed'..
So this topic has been moved to Book club discussions category or something like that? And isn't available.?
As far as I am concerned this post is just as much about communicating and following recovery of a member of KP as about a book series and belongs in General Chitchat where the most members can benefit from seeing that she is doing well and maintaining her sense of humor.
Whoever moved this, Tyrant in Charge of Petty Things I suppose, should read the post and realize the significance of the content and leave it where it was! If you don't recognize the posters you shouldn't be in charge of moving, closing or deleting!

There is a lot of that with this new forum. Seems like posters should be the ones who decide where they want their posts to be. But algorithms do not care about community.

Hi, Thanks for the info.
If the post was originally in General Chit Chat I have no knowledge of how it was moved to Book Club so sadly can't answer this query.
However, I did see it when it appeared on Book Club Discussion Group's Main Page as a new topic.
Unfortunately no email prompts are sent out to Book Club members when new topics are posted - we have no idea why this is so, it has always been like this.
Because we always like to respond quickly to posts, I post up a note in the section "Our latest recommendations & discussions" to let members know so the recommendation doesn't get missed. Discussions then take place there. The new topic is closed and with the link given as to where posts will now be found for following comments.
The sections entitled "Poetry & short stories" and "Our latest recommendations & discussions" are the only sections open for posting to make it easier to "find" the latest posts and email prompts are sent. Originally we had so many topics posted it was way "too busy". Hence the current way of working.
Please visit our main page for further details and see all the Authors who have been recommended and post in the open sections at any time. Thank you.
Do please send a PM if you have any further queries. Thank you.

Personally I think there are too darn (insert expletive of choice) many sections in this new forum.
I believe there are actually a few fewer than before April 11, 2022, though there do seem to be too many for me.

It’s not algorithms moving topics around. It’s usually in response to a report made by a KP member who thinks it’s misplaced. Once reported, either a moderator or (rarely) Admin decides if the topic warrants moving or not.
Sometimes, it gets moved before anyone reports it, because a moderator thought it belonged elsewhere.

Personally, I don’t remember closing down any topic … yet.

All rather strange to say the least.
I've often seen on General Chit Chat book recommendations, but none have then appeared later on Book Club.
If I see a book recommendation on general chit chat I usually add a note about book club etc. As indeed to other Book Club members.
My understanding is that only Admin can move topics from one place to another on KP. ??? I once posted in the wrong place and I received a note from Admin to say it had been moved.

Yes, on original version of KP, only Admin could move topics. Now, moderators also can.

Well, because people use algorithms, too, it is selective. Apparently, seeing books in the post means that it gets moved to a topic on books.

Understandable if you want to limit reader participation but not necessary except to please those who feel the need to accommodate their OCD need to categorize.

Better too many than not enough?
As long as one has the ability to open and close sections that are, or are not, of interest, what difference does it make how many there are?
----------------------------------------
UPDATE
I'll jump in here again and add that as long as KP belongs to someone other than me and the rest of us commenters, we should just either read, post, or ignore what we don't like about it. I for one, appreciate that there is a readable forum to voice opinions, get help, and express oneself.

Nothing I've ever read or posted myself is all that important whether it was in the proper section or not. This is for fun and information, not life-altering. Just my opinion.

I cannot control those who report. I don’t always agree with them though, so don’t always move topics as wished.

In this particular instance, I don't believe that the post was moved to start with. But I do disagree with the fact that the moderator of the book forum took it upon herself to close the post to further replies and move it to where she thinks it should be.
I replied in General chitchat and it is now in books. That is moved.
