My husband and I were just discussing a pattern I really want and I was telling him about not being able to sell items from it. Well he brought up an interesting question and I want to put it out there for you'll and see if it can be answered. I am going to start looking myself. The question is When you purchase a pattern from a place other the the USA, for instance China, Cuba, or Canada. Are we still bound by "our law" to follow their copyright laws. Just thought it was a question I have never ever seen asked and answered before. Well Im off also to go search.

From this site:
Copyright infringement is a subject much discussed here and one that causes a lot of disagreement. Whether it is a "poor man's" copyright or a registered copyright seems to determine the legality issues.

"Is my copyright good in other countries?
The United States has copyright relations with most countries throughout the world, and as a result of these agreements, we honor each other's citizens' copyrights. However, the United States does not have such copyright relationships with every country. For a listing of countries and the nature of their copyright relations with the United States, see Circular 38a, International Copyright Relations of the United States."

its ok if you do start something... the reason is we get new members here every day and until you are familar with these laws you don't know about them.. I think you question is a great one... I have never even thought about it... I have just decided that if I want to make and sell something I will have to get good enough to design my own..LOL
it is a long drawn out discusion because its very important... I see people display their craft booths and cringe at the though of "did they get the proper permission to sell these items?" if a person is ignorant of the copywrite laws and makes and sells something with out permission they could end up in a lot of trouble... Your post could save someone from this kind of agony.. :)
