Hi Claire, I haven't tried felting just yet, but from what I understand you make the bag/item about 1/3 bigger than you want it using wool yarn and put it in the washing machine using hot water then cold rinse, checking on it all the way. Here is a Patons pattern link. Have fun!

i've done some felting , i love to make handbags - all wool felts differently - i put my project in a pillowcase cover and use hot water and a little detergent - and i keep checking my project (take it out try shaping and put back if necessary till i get the look i'm going for ) for bags i do a lot of stretching and shaping once i have the size i want , and i use quite a few towels to absorb the water - have fun !
