The line for the pattern says * P2, [yo, ssk] 3 times, K3, [K2tog, yo] 3 times, P1;
repeat from * to last st; P1.

My question is how do you do the yo and p1?

If your problem is with making the yo before the p1, just bring the yarn to the front first... wrap your needle with the yarn, bring it to the front again and just purl...

When doing a yo before a p you have to bring the yarn over then under to the back, just the opposite of before a k, where you bring the yarn under and then over to the back. Hope this is helpful, kind of hard to explain in writing.

when you use yarn over with a purl stitch it doesnt work so go totally around the needle

oh you need to wrap your yarn the other way.. its difficult the first time for me every time I run into this...
