Hi,
I found a really neat sounding knitted scarf directions, but do not understand when it says, knit 8 and turn, knit 8 more?
Has anyone else made this Rapunzel scarf?
Here are the directions:
R 1 - Cast on 20 stitches
R 2 - Knit 8 stitches, turn and knit 8
R 3 - Knit 6 stitches, turn and knit 6
R 4 - Knit 4 stitches, turn and knit 4
R 5 - Knit 20 stitches all the way across
Repeat rows 2 - 5 ending with row 5 to bind off when the scarf is the length you like.

sounded so nice and easy but Mine turned out looking like a bra?
thank you,
Carole Terese

I have a friend who has made several of these. What you are doing is making short rows.
You have 20 stitches on your needle, but after you knit the first 8 sts, you turn the needles around and knit back to the beginning on those same 8sts. Just ignore the rest of the 12sts for now. Then you knit 6sts, turn around and knit those 6sts back, ignoring the rest of the sts.
Continue with the directions, eventually you will knit the whole 20st row.
What you end up with are ruffly bits that do not lay flat,so I can see how it looks like a bra after a couple of repeats.
The pattern my friend has is called "The Potato Chip Scarf" because the edges ruffle like a row of potato chips placed in a row.

(((((( That pattern does bra up......were you thinking you had the other Rapunzel scarf pattern that is an I-cord knit braid looking like Rapunzel's hair?

Good luck!

thank you, to all who helped me understand the Rapundzel scarf
directions.
I think I have the hang of it.
Also, the directions do not give the size of the needles to use.
I am assuming a size 13 needle might work.
hugs,

that's the kind of thing answered only by what effect you want when you finish....light and lacy? big needles, little yarn; warm and cuddly? little needles, medium yarn; just shows shape and design and drapes well? medium needles, medium yarn....this scarf is not really for warmth, it's an accessory...i think the 13s would be great with something that looked lacy and open, draping in each little rounded area......but the point is what do you think would look good??????

I just knit ten of these or slightly similar scarves.
Didn't know what it was called as a friend gave it to me.
I used size 8 needles, knit 20, knit 8, turned and knit 8 back, knit 4, turned and knit 4 back, then 20. Continued
like this until desired length and bind off in the 20 row.
It does look like a bra on the ends. I knit with 2 yarns
and love this pattern. It curls and hugs your neck. So
warm. I love it!
