I think that Hypnotic Yarns does something called Yarnables - she does a very nice job and produces very nice yarns. But I've done other monthly yarn subscriptions and I can now speak with some knowledge about them. You could probably save money by just picking out your own yarn, unless you love surprises regardless of the color. I even did the quarterly Quince & Co. subscription and I love their yarn. But - it was never enough, never quite a color I would like to use.
I subscribed to KnitCrate's monthly sock box, which includes yarn and a pattern booklet. The colors didn't "wow" me, as I tend toward bright, saturated colors. Their yarn was very high quality though...
