Thank you, London Girl for introducing the topic -- I love this pattern! Also thank you to all the helpful KPers who responded with links, translations, charts, video, and explanations. The collaborative effort was so helpful, and it is why I love this forum!
I knit this in the round, cast on 110 stitches on #4 needle for the ribbing, increased to 132 on #7 needle for the cable section, decreased to 112 on #4 for rolled cylinder, and divided into 7 decrease sections on #7 needle for top. Used Lion brand Vanna's Choice yarn, Dusty Purple.

First did 7 rows of 1x1 ribbing, then on next row, knit the knit stitch, and when doing the purl, pick up the purl from 8 rows below and purl along with the stitch on the needle. If you go to London Girl's original post, there is a printed pattern translation on p. 2, also a link to a video given by another poster, on p. 6, which shows how to do it. she is knitting it flat, and working on reverse side. In order to get the roll on the right side of the hat, i had to reach around and pick up the stitches on reverse side, since I was knitting in round.
