I have a sheep that is a crossbred Cheviot/Shetland. Her first year she seemed to be grey, but when she was sheared it was growing out white! After that she changed color halfway during the season and there was a definite line where she changed color on the fleece. She did that for many years but now that she is old she is pretty sure to be white every year. She has a black face and legs, tho. I called her Faery Kiss because she has white spot on her black face. By the way, her fleece was excellent and won prizes several years, and still brings a good price. But they are entered in classes by color - now what do I do?

Your story reminds me of what happens with grey horses.

We bought a very young black pony that changed to a dark dappled grey during the next few years and then ended up a very light grey with no dapples.

I had moved interstate so I never saw her much and when I did, I didn't recognise her at all.

Little doggie was in a state of bliss.

Yes there are many animals whos coats change age they mature. What I found very disconcerting was seeing my dogs eyes start out blue ok that's not unheard of then go to a green I thought oh my I've a green eyed dog.

Mmmm they didn't stay green they are now Amber with two thin blue lines one of the outer edge of the iris and one on the inner edge of the iris.

My ferrets' coats change with the seasons.

Sometimes they have a mask and sometimes they don't.
