thank you ive looked at this one and think i can master it lolmirl56 said:http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/summer-flies
I like this for a first timer. It uses worsted weight so it's not scary thin yarn. pattern is written out for those not chart-familiar.
Thanks for posting this. I printed this pattern and realized I've made the same designer's Cambridge Watchcap, which is a great stretchy hat in a twisted rib stitch.njaus said:http://evergreenknits.blogspot.com/2008/08/storm-cloud-shawlette-pattern.html
I have done this shawlette. It is easy. Using different yarns and needle size varies this cute shawlette.
I would do the Craftsy.com class mastering lace shawls with Laura Nelkin. She is a great teacher. If you look at my Avatar that was my first shawl...it is the Skywalker shawl in her class.xxjanexx said:id like to have a go at making a shawl 1st one and wondered if someone could suggest something not to hard and not to plain thanks guys n girls![]()

thank you i might do this one 2nd ive never heard of stephen west before so must look him upmmccamant said:Stephen West's Boneyard shawl (on Ravelry) is a good first shawl. It's not lace, but has purl row ridges to give it texture. Here's a picture of the one I made, from DK weight yarn.
Another one worth mentioning from Ravelry is the Holden Shawlette. It's worked on sock yarn, but with a larger needle size and a heavier weight yarn it would become a full sized shawl.xxjanexx said:thank you all ive started on the summer of flies watch this space!!!
