Hi, I've been knitting a million years but this shawl has given me a headache start to finish. First, I haven't knitted lace weight in forever it this seemed to be a simple pattern. No real pattern, just a couple of rows and some suggestions along with a graph for the edging. No indication of where to start graph, whether knitted lengthwise and attached, stitches picked up and knitted out, or stand on my head. Well, it is finished and the top edge is almost as much a triangle as the bottom edge. It was the standard eyelet at outside edged and yo, k2, yo in the center. Any guess as to what went wrong?

Sounds like you picked it up wrong and it got turned around upside down. But don't trust me, I don't knit.

I will say that whatever pattern you are using... SUCKS !

With all the wonderful FREE patterns out there, there HAS to be a better one for what you want.

this is pretty normal for trangular shawls.... it really needs HAAAARRRRRD blocking and pinning... if it is a delicate yarn that you dont want to soak , pin first then spritz with spray bottle.. otherwise soak in warm water and detergent , rinse v well with a littel white vinegar added to water ... roll in towels to absorb most of the water and then stretch and pin... leave til completely (completely) dry.. all in all a real pain and my least favourite prt of knitting... but the results are fantasitc

best of luck

Beautiful!!!!!
I made a shawl which had a similar problem so I changed the pattern and now I only increase in the centre on alternate rows and it sits very nicely.
You are certainly not going to pull it all undone to fix it so, when you put it on, fold the top edge under so it sits better.
I do this with all of my scarves now and they all sit very nicely on my neck.
After a while the shawl will change shape and sit even better.
Have fun.

PS. On second viewing of your picture, I have a question or two.
Did you start with a Small number of stitches and increase until you had lots and lots of stitches on your needle?
Is the border added after you Cast Off?
The reason I ask is, on the triangle scarf I make, the row of increases which I can see above your pretty border, are at the top edge of my scarf and the border is where your neck edge is.
I will add a pic which is also done in similar yarn to yours, so you can see the lines of colour point the opposite direction to yours.
Of course, you may have used a pattern which is totally different.

It looks to me like you were supposed to increase at the edges and the center.

I would do that by increasing at the beginning, and after a stitch marker placed in the center. If you do that on every row and knit every row, you will have a triangle with your starting point in the middle of the long edge. It will be a real triangle with the long edge straight. You won't have to block it to make it that way.

I can tell you didn't increase at the edges, because the edge is perpendicular to the rows you were knitting and to the color changes.

You also put the narrow edging on what should have been the two short edges at the bottom of the shawl and the wide edging at what should have been the long, straight edge at the top of the shawl.

Beautiful ! Looks like we may have used the same yarn! Was yours from Estonia?
I started at the bottom and increased with yarn overs each end and the center. I'm short so I didn't want the back too long before it was wide enough. Plus I was a little worried about running short on yarn for the border so I may have added extra middle increases . I did the shawl a year ago and just recently bound it off using the elastic bind off . Then I picked up stitches, increased and knitted the border. The pattern had minimal information
About the border, a graph and stitch repeat but no dimensions about any of it. It was my first lace weight and Lacey shawl. But you are right, I'm not taking it out. I made it for wind protection in San Francisco at my daughter's so I'm wearing it, warts and all. Good to suspect my error so I can correct it next time. Is your pattern on Ravelry?
Love the long ends and the crocheted border on yours!

Looks to me like you may have picked up the wrong edge when you started your border.
I will add a pic of one I am just starting to show you how yours should look.
It is not how you think, when it is all crammed onto the needle which is why I knit on circulars.
The first picture is with the stitches at the top which is the direction I was knitting.
I have also flipped the picture so you can see how it would be when worn.
It is an easy trap to fall into with this style of shawl.
My pattern is available via a PM with your email address so I can send the pattern as a PDF.
You may notice that your neck edge is quite pointed and puckered so you may be able to correct it a little by undoing the Cast Off and working a row with lots of decreases, especially at the neck area, the Cast Off firmly instead of loosely.
Hope these pictures help you in the future.
Have fun.
Colleen
PS. The yarn I used was probably made in Turkey but it certainly looks similar.
Yours maybe looks a bit brighter.
