After seeing others posting pictures about buddy blankets I went on a search for different patterns. All I could find were either bear or bunny patterns and I wanted something different. I started with this Patons pattern.

For the car seat blanket my idea started with a chart that I found in The Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Needlework, 1979 Edition, page 319.

I have that Reader's Digest book! It's still my "go to" book for so many ideas, even after all these years. One of the best investments I ever made.

You can use any animal head as the center of the buddy blanket. And then just work the blanket around it.
