I need your help...again.

My brother had requested a pair of socks to wear for dress (on stage or when he wears a tux with fancy shoes). What kind/make of yarn should I use? It needs to make up kind of thin..again for dress shoes.

Thank you for your help! BTW...I told him I didn't think this type of sock was possible..so he will be REALLY surprised!

to knit a fine dress sock, I use a very fine wool yarn with a high nylon content using anywhere from 000000 to 000 circular needles. It takes forever, but they come out beautiful.

I knit myself socks on size 0000 needles using 90 stitches around and they took forever. I wear a woman's 7 1/2 shoe, and the socks were quite snug. As to how many stitches you would need for a man size sock, I shudder to think.

(Those 000-000 needles look like fine wire. I bought them, but it's unlikely I'll ever use them.)

I don't know if this would work or not, but why don't you give customer service at Jimmy Beans Wool a call and present your dilemma. I bet they'll have someone on staff who can recommend a yarn that would be just right for your brother's socks. Here is a link to the page with all the contact numbers for Jimmy Beans Wool:

why not make them with a regular sock yarn and recommended needle. and give him a coupon for a shoe store to buy a pair of shoes that fit the socks! sounds easier to me than trying to knit with all those 0000000000 needles!!

three ply sock yarn would be good for that - I use Kroy 3 ply but it is hard to find. ...
I accompanied my son to Michael's last week. While he was shopping for what he wanted, I wandered through the yarn asiles. Good old Kroy sock yarn is stocked!

Where in the world can one find needles that small?
Lacis http://lacis.com/
If it's tiny and exotic, they have it. Their website is anything but user-friendly.

I have seen lots of Kroy sock yarn but only in 4 ply. It sure would be nice if they brought the 3 ply back. I have been picking it up when I find it but it isn't always in the colors he wants to wear.
