I found this on FB and thought I'd bring it here to share.
**************************************************

BIGGER PICTURE: A mom in Indiana says she's at her wit's end with her son's behavior.
After he had several run-ins with police, she took matters into her own hands.
She's making her 14 year old stand on the street, wearing a sign with a list of his crimes.
She says he only received a few hours of community service and she felt that punishment wasn't tough enough.
The teen's sign clearly states he doesn't follow the law, but apparently some drivers passing by didn't think his mom was either and called police.
Officers say the mother is completely within her rights to make her son stand on the side of the street.
What do you think? Is this mother going too far?

I think I like his mom.

Consequences little man.

Like most parents I am sure I would rather my son die of embarassment then of other things. as is the case with this mom too.

She is telling it like it is. Very much in danger of losing him to the streets if she doesn't get control of him. Reminds me of the story of Dr. Ben Carson of Johns Hopkins.

How humiliating! This sort of public ridicule is supposed to do what? And before I get an avalanche of angry replies, let me say I DO think the kid needs some very serious redirection, but this sort of stuff is wrong, wrong, wrong. If the boy is already lieing (sp), stealing, selling drugs, not obeying the law at age 14, the mother is about 13 years late in starting discipline and respect.

Jinkers, how do you know she hasn't done all she can? It is obvious she is at the end of her rope. She obviously loves her son. I think this action proves that love. She is loosing him to this way of life that seems easy to him, provides easy cash and one where he does not need to show responsibility for his actions. Yes it is humiliating for the boy, but so what. I hope it work for the mom.

My father made a similar sign for my sister when he caught her smoking. She had to parade up and down our street holding a lit cigar. He had written on the sign, "I give my daughter permission to smoke cigars!"

It did the trick. (This was about 50 years ago)

what you say might be so..But she is not turning her back now is she she is doing what she can to take control before it does get worse or him dead. Its more than what the system has done. Maybe in your eyes its wrong and maybe its not. Time on can tell the out come. And sweet talking bull gets nothing either when the streets have taken over. Sometimes Tough Love has to be the teacher..beatings as what I received taught nothing but fear...and hate for some that turns out to be killers, beaters and more. Na I'll take this over all of it.
