Some of you know that I am a delivery driver for a well known "overnight" company..more specifically I'm a cover driver. I do the routes of other drivers on their days off, while they are on vacation, etc.. Today was cut short because I got ill..but one of my deliveries this morning was interesting.

When I got in the truck the regular driver left me a note that this woman at an address was anxious about a package to be delivered...he said in the note "you are going to want to ask her to open the package". Well I arrived at the home and a VERY Pregnant young woman is waving from the front door. I said "say, I hear this is a package of some importance and I should ask you to open it in front of me"..she sort of giggled. Inside was the most lovely Christening gown I have ever seen! It was hand crocheted by some long gone relative and has been in this family for several generations! As the young woman held the gown up over her swollen belly, she had tears in her eyes..so did I! She told me she will only have it in her possession a short time...once her child is Baptized, it must be shipped off to a cousin whose baby is due 3 months after hers!!!! The regular driver on the route told her "Lil is doing this route tomorrow, she knits and crochets and she's going to want to see the gown!".

Sometimes I get so share very special moments...delivering wedding gowns worn by great grandmothers to young women who are going to have it altered to fit them. The "baby" moments always "get me" though. Two summers ago I was delivering way out in the boonies and I can see two women hanging laundry...one woman is young and the other woman is clearly older, and the mother of the young woman. Suddenly the women turn..words are spoken and the older woman rushes up to the young woman and places her hand on her stomach...I knew at that moment that she told her mother that she was pregnant. I couldn't help but intrude and started honking the horn of my truck and waving..while screaming "congratulations"...both women waved back and jumped up and down. Sometimes there really are "cool" moments with my job.

What a nice day you had. Thanks for sharing the story. Just watching the TV news all the time you sometimes forget that there really are very special people out there with wonderful stories. We get so caught up with the Charlie Sheen madness, in reality, we shouldn't give it any of our time what-so-ever.
