I often hear people ask about what they do with the whatevers.
I have a storage locker and it is full of finished items and loaded with boxes of yarn. Th track shown is one of many when I was forced to move to another locker. Gave me a chance to organize?????

i bought storage bins from walmart in one closet i have 8 of these bins but i try to keep one color in them sometimes i dont have much grey and black so i combine these bins are sturdy i have had some for about 8 to 10 yrs wish i had more room sigh now i have thought of a new idea i went to walmart and bought shoe hangers there are about 4-6 compartments in eash onei have 6 hanging in my closet sure wish i had more room haha

I use plastic stacking drawers for my yarn. I can quickly see what I have and get to it pretty easily. Also, I store all my yarn in plastic bags to avoid it getting tangled or worn from rubbing on other yarns.

I use the stoage bins, as the tops seal well. I have three and then a zippered blanket bag full of yarn and need to get more storage containers as I now have a large box and several bags full also. I hide everything in the guest room closet so that hubby doesn't find the stash and realize where my weekly funds go.

BettyAnn, LOL, that is where I put my yarn also, the hubby only goes in there are rare occasions, so does not realize how much yarn I really own.

I have totes filling one closet.
Like to get empty liquor boxes at my local grocery store, cover them with shelf paper and store yarn in them. Can work from them too and it helps keep the colors from tangleing. I get the six compartment boxes or twelve compartment boxes. These boxes are also good for storing balls of crochet thread. These make good little gifts too.

Wherever you stash you yarn to keep it out of sight is wonderful. Whatever you do, Do Not Move, especially long distance, because the truth of your quantity becomes self-evident!

I moved from Minneapolis 600 miles south to a hay meadow. I love it, but I am So Pleased to have my stuff with me! It is 40 miles to anywhere.

My daffies ae up and blooming!! The snow of Monday afternoon did not stick, but was lovely to watch from indoors.

I moved about a year ago, though it would kill me. I downsized from a 5/3 2 story house to a 3/2 apt. 3000+. sq ft to 1300, large 2 room sudio to small craft room. I sold off a lot, left and gave away a lot but not even one skein of my stash did I give up. Somehow I have it all here and put away. Minor Miracle!

I love those zippered blanket bags! I spent last weekend reorganizing my yarn after reading a tip from someone here in the forum about using gallon ziplock bags for storage. Now I only have one plastic tote that is full, one queen-sized zippered bag that is full of all my cotton yarns, and two big recyclable shopping bags from Michaels full of various Caron Simply Soft yarns that I went crazy over and bought a bunch on sale (and then bought more every time I went into Michaels or JoAnns) that I stored in the ziplock bags. They work great. I squeeze the air out as I seal them and make even more room.

Still, I keep telling myself, "I will not get any more yarn until I use up what I've already got!" (sound familiar?)

PJ, you're right about moving revealing the truth about your yarn stash! We moved my mother (and her gigantic stash) twice over the course of about 3 years. Since my dad passed away, she now has an entire room full of yarn (kept in the plastic stacking drawers)and quilting fabric (kept in smaller bins in the closet). Every time my brother goes in there he tells me, "That's your inheritence!" (Hey, I think that's great--just as long as I don't "inherit" it any time soon!)

Is there a support group for people like us? I keep saying I won't buy any more yarn and then I get a darn coupon!
I use the plastic storage bins too. The plastic blanket bags sound like a good idea too!

I think they used to have a 12-Step program for us, but it was at the craft store so nobody ended up attending the meeting! (no--I'm kidding!)

The zippered blanket bags are great, as are the zippered bags that sheets and pillowcases come in, too. I use those for keeping my smaller stuff. The cool thing is that they often have little "pockets" inside where the cardboard labels were inserted that are great for keeping the small stuff organized. I've often wondered if whoever invented those bags was a craft person.

I am glad I am not alone in this sickness or habit or passion or what ever you call it . My daughter calls me HOARDER HOARDER HOARDER sometimes I feel guilty but that only lasts a second.lol

I love it! I'm always saying I can't buy anymore until I work down some on what I already have then A.C. Moore or Michaels has a 50% off coupon.

My storage space is somewhat limited as I live in a 2 story condo but I don't do stairs well. I out grew my craft closet so I turned the hall bathrub into stash living quarters!

I love the idea of a support group. Count me in.

Btw, thanks for the idea of using the gallon size ziplock bags. Now I have a use for mine that were previously gathering dust.

For some odd reason I want to "hoard" unused skeins of yarn, but, after I finish a project I'm eager to give it away! Why is that? :-/

I find a good use for the blanket bags and sheet bags for the finished items. So many just zip and seal. Also on a trip west from Boston I came across a yarn sale. I bought up a storm. When I got to my destination the family took my yarn and boxed it and shipped it UPS home. You can bet I watched every truck I passed on the road home. It got there safe and sound.

Why are you holding on to your finished work? you could share with a local charity and solve storage problem easily.
Of course I (lol) have a stash and nothing finished so don't mind me.
