and I am borrowing part of this description from a post from the past (2012) for a description of swaps.....
When you participate in a swap, you fill out a form with your details. The swap coordinator then takes all of the forms and either matches people up or chooses in a round robin who sends to who.

The idea is that you prepare a parcel, depending on the type of swap, for the person who's name you receive and either that person or someone else prepares a parcel for you. There is usually a price limit (varies) for the contents. There is sometimes a theme and other times just a general swap. If you look at the pictures in the swaps section you will see the types of things that are sent from one person to the other.

If you want to participate just check out the page above and send a PM (personal message) to the coordinator. There is usually a limit on the number of participants in a swap so don't hesitate because they are popular and spaces fill up fast. Individual swaps will have other guidelines to follow too.
