I made this sweater using a pattern from Creative Knitting magazine, January 2011. The pattern calls for worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles, getting 5 stitches to the inch. I started my gauge swatch using a 7, but got too few stitches to the inch. I went down to a 6, then a 4, and finally a 3 to get the right gauge. After I got that, I worked 12 rows of the pattern stitch. I figured I'd give the swatch to Kyra (great-granddaughter) to use as a doll blanket, as so many of my swatches are used. However, a friend suggested that I make a matching piece, sew them together and put a strap on, so she can use it as a purse. That worked out great. I used the wicker stitch pattern on the strap.
