I am starting a thread about dogs so as not to hijack the other threads topics. I love talking about my furbabies.
cherknit, you mentioned your yorkie nipping even when not in their territory. Have you considered YOU are their territory? I say that because that happened once with my oldest (before we had the other 3). My grandson was giving me a kiss with Buckeye(my dog) on my lap and he nipped him. Buckeye is the only one out of my 4 that has ever done anything like that. I am very close with my dogs and in a way ... that isn't good. :?
We are originally from Ohio and that is where our granchildren are located. It is hard to find motels that will accept 4 barking dogs (and they do bark! )... so our spoiled yorkies have their own traveling dog house. we bought them a 35 ft winnebago. We don't call it a motorhome we call it a doghouse. You should have seen the look I got when standing in line at a check out... my grandson said "Nana ... am I going to sleep in the dog house tonight?

Great idea,
I have greyhounds. All retired from racing. Some broken, some abused. But now all happy and living the Life of Riley!! I am the crazy Granny that makes them pjs to keep them warm during the long cold NE winters. Crocheted Halloween costumes. And bake cookies for them.
They are all so loving and know how lucky they are to be retired and resting on leather sofas and watching TV or lounging in front of the wood stove.
Great idea you had . Now we can brag about our "babe's"

HI Cher, Yes a trainer is a good idea. Dogs are protective of their masters.
But no matter what always be near when the dog and baby are together.
We sometimes forget they are animals. I hate when out walking and someone walks right up to my dog. Do they bite? Dumb question. My answer is Do you see teeth? I am super careful around other people. he is great with me and family, but I would hate for her to bite someone.

But she is my best friend and constant companion for the last 12 1/2 years. Love her dearly.

Cherknit, click on reply and under your message box you see 3 browser buttons... click browse and then choose your pic from your files.
If you go on the Victoria Stillwell (hope I spelled it right) site, she has an application there to fill out and send along with a video of your family. If you are picked she will come and help you... for free and we get to see it on tv. Couldn't hurt to try.
I love that show.
I don't know anything about dog racing even tho we live close to one, I have never been there. They are very beautiful dogs tho.
I love them all.

Love my doggie! Pepper is my skiing and running companion, and fellow couch potato. My biggest joy is to see her sweet face pop up in the window when we drive up to the house after begin gone. It's so amazing to me how loving, giving, and forgiving these furbabies are. :)

Hey Pepper,
You sure look dapper in your boots and jacket. Guess you need it to stay warm in WI.
I have retired greys and they too need jackets to keep warm.

We are so blessed to have them in our lives. I also enjoy Snowy woof as I near the door. She is part collie got her at 3 days old from a rescue. I adore her. We have been together 12 1/2 years. I love rubbing her soft ears and her eyes as so expressive. AHH we have had a love affair.

Extra dog biscuits to all of our pets today.

Geez, I thought I was the only person who thought of them as fur covered babies. Love the furbabies moniker. The picture is of my 3 about 2 years ago Min (Sheltie) was less that a year, Gidget (short hair Chihuahua or Huers as we affectionately call them) and Boo-Boo Bear (long hair Chihuahua) both Huers are 16 now. The picture isn't the greatest but neat, I went outside to take pictures of some new landscaping we had done, and when I looked back at the house there they were all 3 of them sitting in a row just watching me. I didn't know if you could take a picture throught the glass but I tried any way and I'm sure glad I did. Because Woe is ME both Huers are starting to fail.... both are about toothless and going deaf and blind.

And the newest addition to our family a Siberian cat Sofie that is 5 months.

That is an awesome pix. I have had that moment also. As I drive out of the driveway, the greys are all watching out of the bay window. I know they all ae hoping I stop at McDonalds and bring then ice cream!! Spoiled? Perhaps a little. McDonalds staff laugh when I tell them I need 9 with out topping for the dogs.

Sad, my Snowy is ebbing much too quickly. I tear up just thinking about it. Not sure how I will handle that" aweful" day.

So now I make her steak or chops, tonight is meatloaf. I want her to know how much I love her and how much I will miss her.

Ok, so I don't have dogs (condo rule...can't wait to get a real house!). But can I show off MY furbabies? 3 are cats, and the 4th is a horse. :) And yes...they are all spoiled and well loved!

Won't add pics until I get the ok. Don't want to be considered as hijacking the post since it's titled The Dogs. lol

Yep....I can relate about the ice cream. Fortunately (or Unfortunately, I can't decide which), we live in a neighborhood where we have an ice cream truck that comes through every night in the spring/summer. The guy just laughs when we get our 4 1/2 cups of soft serve for the furbabies. BUT.....the part that is really hysterical about the whole thing is obviously we don't let them have ice cream every day...... The truck plays music, and we can hear it blocks away, we've learned not go get up or move when we hear the ice cream truck. If we move all of them set in howling & barking with excitement............ one time Min got so excited he jumped up and nipped me right in the butt, all I could do was laugh.

They've got us pretty well trained HUH LOL 2 X

WOW a condo that allows horses. How lucky. HAHA

I wouldn't mind seeing your pets. I hope no one on this site is that thin skinned as to be opposed to "animals" being included. But heck start a new topic' HORSES" and leys see how many other horse lovers are among us.

Oh how funny was that! I have been nipped alot also.
And they are so trained. Just tiuch car keys and they line up at the door ready..don't even care where we are going just want to come along. Son in law has pick up w cab. We load them in, small dogs(dashhund, beagle and 3 legged grey) in the back seat. And off we go. We put the ice cream dishes in the cup holders and away they go. Only on birthdays do they get sprinkles.
And if they have to go to the vet, we stop at Wendys for a burger or two. Even our fosters get spoiled. Hard on their forever family to learn the rules.
And I sit for greys when their humans go on vaca. Tons of fun. I request a permission slip from the parent so they can go to the ice cream store ot have a burger. The humans get such a hoot out of that.
Our one grey, Erin the Irish lass can sing opera. She has a pitch that can break glass and she usually leads the afternoon howl. Can be hurtful to ears of guests.

Gotta love them.Linda

Ok, since it was suggested - going to start 2 new topics: 1 for horses, and 1 for cats. :)
Probably easier that way anyway - since there are (gasp in shock) some people out there who don't like certain animals and would rather only read about a particular species. lol

((My grandmother used to despise cats...until she had to live with her sister who had one. lol))

My baby is a Rat-Russell that was saved after the last hurricane in Texas on the side of the road and brought to Dallas. She is half rat terrior and half Jack Russel and I don't know what I would do without my Abbie.

I found her on Dogsters.com. It is a great site for saving dogs and it list them according to what breed you are looking for, size and age. If you need a pet there is also Catster.com.

She goes to the nursing home with me to see my hubby and everyone there just loves her to pieces, as she is so gentle. BUT if she is in the car or at my house, no stranger better walk up as they will think she will eat them.

She is my constant companion and sleeps right at my back most of the time with her head on the other half of the bed. Hugs Robbie

Hi Robbie,
You sure did select a very nice chair for her.
They are the best companion. I agree. And they ask for nothing.

Enjoy your lucky bundle of joy.
