Yep....I agree on someone coming to the door. I had a guy from ADP (the alarm company) come try to sell me an alarm system. I told him I all ready had one. He said Oh what brand. I said 2 Chihuahuas and a Sheltie. He just shook his head and left................LOL

When I was a kid I had (she was a birthday present to me - even though my parents knew they'd likely end up doing most of the care lol) a lab/beagle cross. She had the funniest little "monkey" noises... not quite the beagle bay, but not quite a lab bark either that she'd do when she saw me coming home - she'd get so excited! :)
One night some guy came to the door at a very late hour and she stood between the door and my mother and me (I was around 12 or so by then) and snarled.... the guy left in a hurry. Best guard dog! Of course, she also has an issue with the neighbor across the street's big dobie... poor Tootsie (poor dog, with that name!) only wanted to be friends, but Tabby wanted to take her on instead. We kept them separated. Of course, Tootsie was also afraid of her own shadow and her little sibling - a minpin who's name eludes me.

I miss Tabby. Even now, after she's been gone so long, I tear up thinking about her. When it was time, I made the right decision - I know that. I was there with her too.

Oh Squirrelcat,
I have promised Snowy that I won't allow her to suffer, but I'll keep her with me as long as I can.
Wish you were here to hold my hand.
Thanks Linda

Aww, wish I could be there for you.
I had my mom there for me - I was about 16 years old when I had to let Tabby go. Unfortunately, her situation seems like it may have been a bit different than your Snowy's. Tabby had cancer - and my decision was made easier for me (if that makes sense) because we were also dealing with watching my great-aunt's battle with cancer as well. I knew what trying to hold on to Tabby would do to her.

I know it won't seem like it when the time comes, but it does get easier in time to accept that decision.

Thanks,
We had lost our very first precious grey to bone cancer. I took her to the vet for a sprained foot, so I thought. But the xray wasn't kind. And the decision was instant, sad, but she didn't deserve to suffer.
Seems like only yesterday, but it's been years. She was priceless.

Snowy's body will give out long before her love and spirit.

But she will join Sky at the rainbow bridge, where all greys wait for their masters and friends.
Hugs,
Linda

Hey, its me Drefuzzler, I've attached a poem for you all. It's a word document not sure it will post right. If not I'll do it again a different way. I can totally understand. I'ts like you've lost a child. Unfortunately I've had to do it a few times, and it DOES NOT get easier. Just know that you've made the right decision. I still cry over the first one when I see her pictures and it has been all most 20 years........Don't let them suffer.

Don't try the download, it doesn't work sorry. so here it is

Touch me with your voice as a puppy young and new,
And let me know my presence is what is pleasing you.

Touch me with your spirit, for God sent me here to you,
To teach you of that precious bond know by the choicest few.

Touch me with your hands as I grow tall and strong,
I need you as my mentor through out my whole life long.

Touch me with your lips, and brush them softly on my brow,
Please kiss away the fears, that I am feeling now.

Touch me with your eyes, as I become full grown,
To validate unspoken love that we have always know.

Touch me with your heart, as our bond keeps growing stronger,
And words need not be used in our language any longer.

Touch me with your breath, so soft and warm upon my face,
As I try to bring you comfort in life’s never ending race.

Touch me with your love as my muzzle turns to gray,
I live my life to please you, each and every single day.

Touch me with your scent when age has dimmed my sight,
To reassure me always that you will be my light.

Touch me with your face when your tears are meant for me,
So I may bear your pain, and let your heart be free.

Touch me with remembrance when I have traveled on,
And, I will hold your heart in mine, forever when I am gone.

OMG, Thank you so much.
I feel blessed to have her, for how ever long it may be now.
Oh how entwined my heart is with hers.

You were so kind to send me that verse. I will cherish it.
Thankyou Linda and Snowy

My little Tasha, a Chug (Chi/Pug), my name, really a mutt. She is almost 17 an has congestive heart failure and early stage renal failure. We have her on heart meds which are really helping with her coughing and wheezing and we give her daily IV drips to lessen the stress on her kidneys and keep her from dehydrating. I am also dreaded the inevitable. She is actually holding her own, but I pray that when the time comes, she will go peacefully and I will find her gone. I cannot even comprehend making a conscious decision to end her life. Like, "OK today is the day we put you to sleep" I cannot even bear the thought. The vet has agreed to come to our home when and if we need him. I pray for you and I feel your pain.

I have a 9-yr old toy poodle named Abby and a 12-yr old chihuahua named Gizmo. Got Abby when she was 6-wks old and she knows she's mine and I'm hers! If I'm gone for a while, when I return, as soon as I get to the door, she literally starts screaming she's so happy to see me, and sleeps just as close to me as she can possible get every night. Gizmo we got from our daughter. She's gone all day working and couldn't house break him. When she built her new home, she didn't want him ruining her floors, so my husband felt sorry for him and brought him home. So, he's his dog! He has a bad back now and kind of stumbles around, but has no problem getting to food! He's the only dog Abby will tolerate, since she's been around him all her life, but she's definitely the alpha dog!

I also love dogs....all animals but dogs are my favorite. We are now owned by a 16 month old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy named Digby. He weighs 116lbs and still has a little more growing. He is so fun. Everytime we take him anywhere he is a show stopper for sure. If we go into Petsmart with him, we know we won't get out of the store for at least an hour.

I can totally sympathize and understand. I've been there several times, it's one of the hardest decisions you'll ever have to make, just don't make them suffer needlessly.

A DOG’S PLEA

Treat me kindly, by beloved friend,
for no heart in all the world
is more grateful for kindness,
than the loving heart of me

Do not break my spirit with a stick,
for though I might lick your hand between blows,
your patience and understanding will more
quickly teach me the things you would have me learn

Speak to me often, for you voice is the world’s
sweetest music, as you must know by the
fierce wagging of my tail when the sound of
you footsteps fall upon my waiting ear

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet,
for I am a domesticated animal, no longer
accustomed to bitter elements, I ask no
greater glory than the privilege of sitting
at your feet beside the hearth

Keep my pan filled with fresh water,
for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst
Feed me clean food that I may stay well
to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk
by your side and stand, willing and able
to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger

And, my friend when I am very old
and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight,
Do not make heroic efforts to keep me going.
For I am not having any fun.
Please see to it that my life is taken gently
I shall leave this earth knowing with the last
breath I draw, that my fate was always safest in your hands

Hi Babs,
I'm so sorry about your pup.
It is so heart breaking for the humans.
I thought I was the only bawling baby. I cry just looking into her eyes. She is such a love and companion.

What is she trying to tell me?

Oh well we made it through another day together. And like you, I pray her passing is quiet and peaceful.

God Bless all of you who have offered kind words and prayers. We are all so connected, more than just knitting ladies. We are keeper of hearts.

Had the protective dog issue myself. What a person has to do is have patience and determination. Step 1 is to have a person willing to work with you. Step 2 be prepared to hurt your dogs feelings Step 3 sit on the couch and have that other person approach you. Step 4 when the dog starts to act up say no in a normal voice then take the dog off the couch, away from you, perhaps across the room on their bed. Basically find a place they are normally napping or lay all the time. And have that other person walk out of the room wait a minute then come back. Step 5 Keep doing this over and over and over again...may take up to 50 times of doing this...but the dog will learn this is NOT an acceptable behavior and wont be tolerated by you. Give the dog a treat every time they stay away from your visitor. Soon they will do it without needing the treat. Remember you are the boss. Trust me when I say that life is much easier when people come to visit. No worries. Hang in there...you can do this. You wouldnt tolerate your children disrespecting your guests...why would you let your dog?
