Bigger brother will not quite 2 when baby brother is born and he is small for his age..He had a tough start in life, he's our little miracle. Developmentally he's okay, but on the low end of the height spectrum. This picture is from his 1st birthday getting ready to dig into cake..

I like you tassle. Think I might try using that for some of the baby hats I knit because my pompom's pull apart. I use the purchased circle forms for guides and tie off with dental floss but they seem to pull apart. Hope they hold up when a new mom washes them.

Any ideas as to how to make a pompom that stays together?

Thing 1 is adorable and I love the idea of the 2 hats! What a clever, creative Nana you are!

I am not fond of pom poms and fringe as these trims seem
to turn "ragged" very quickly and make the garment or
blanket appear old and worn before its time. Try making a
pom pom without cutting the loops apart, or try crocheting
"corkscrews" at the top of the hat instead of a pom pom.
They add visual interest and hold up well with use.

My pompoms pull apart too..I don't have the dexterity to tie them tight and no extra set of fingers here..So I use tassels a lot..
