Since joining this site I have seen photos of so many beautiful shawls. I know many must be knitted as gifts, but I wondered if you all actually wore them too?

I know I don't 'get out much' but I don't often see women in the UK wearing shawls so much, we seem to favour long pashmina type scarves and shawls.

I would be interested to know, and from UK ladies too if they wear shawls.

Oh, well. There are different ways of waring a shawl. Not necessary the way they did on 18 century.

Yes, I have seen some draped beautifully but I would so want to wear them the way they did in the 18th century to show off the wonderful design. (I haven't attempted knitting one yet, but I know I will be tempted).

So glad you all are wearing them after all precious time making them.

I think I am going to have to put a shawl on my list of 'new things to try', along with bears and socks! I am not a very good knitter (better at crochet) and a bit scared of trying so will have to find a simple one! This site is inspiratonal (or rather all you wonderful knitters are), as since joining I have learnt how knit top down; discovered I love working with circular needles, and that I am not the only one who has to rip.

Check out the Ashton Shawlette. It's free and there is an ongoing KAL for it where you can always get help from those who have completed the shawl, and from Dee, the designer.

Here's the KAL: http://www.knittingparadise.com/t-96942-1.html

I have made myself a couple of shawlettes in lace weight yarn which I wear a lot, just to keep the chill off. Mainly at home or in the car or visiting friends. Family and friends who have seen them have loved them and I ended up knitting around 12 as gifts. I haven't ever worn a shawl, but would love to.

I wear mine alot at the movie theater. I always find the seat under a vent of cold air. Nice to just wrap it around my shoulders and continue eating my popcorn.
I guess I walk to a different drummer. I'm past caring what others think of my choices.
Dare to be different.

I have 2 that are MINE and I've worn them on many occasions. I've knitted many, many of them and I know all but 2 people who received them wear them. The other 2 have been "re-gifted"....and I don't mind....at least they aren't sitting in the bottom of a closet.
