We have 3 kitties, too. Our most recent acquisition came from our oldest cat bringing a kitten home. To the roof! He brought her with him up to my oldest daughter's window. She brought her in and hid her in her room for 2 weeks! All of the kids were in on it, so we kept her because we had to! 
(We also have an old dog, 2 guinea pigs and a dozen or so fish. Oh, and Eddy. An abandoned cat who is skittish and won't come in, but we feed him and provide him shelter either in the garage or on our porch when he wants it.)

We had that litterbox when we had one cat and didn't care for it. It didn't work for us quite how we had hoped. It is just easier for us to change it, I guess. Just thought I'd share another opinion. ymmv!
