Twisted Stitches

I am knitting 3 xmas stockings with twisted stitches. I understand the concept of the twisted stitch itself, with that being said its the right twist and the left twist, put next to each other in the pattern that have me totally loosing my mind. I will knit a row and then the next round is totally off!! I have watched videos on line, of every one doing it a different way that I am certifiable. I do not know what to do???? Does any one have any ideas? Or has any one done these little devils? HELP THE INSANE..........
