Is there such a thing as a pattern for socks on two needles? Arthritis in my hands makes it difficult to work with 4 needles, & I would love to try making socks?
Thanks in advance for any & all help! Mabonko

Yes, there is LOTS but why not try two circulars. Half the stiches on one and half on the other. Lots of tutorials on how to do it. But there are two needle socks patterns for straight needles, but you have to sew up the seam.

There is a workshop here #51, socks on 2 circular needles with Darowil. The workshop is closed but you can still follow the workshop and pm Darowil will answer any questions. I took the work shop and once I started I found it easy.

the problem with socks on 2 needles is that there is a seam in them. Maybe magic loop would work for you if you. I cannot use the short needles because they hurt my hands, but magic loop works great.

I must be a 'one of' but I cannot stand anything rough in a sock, and the seam would be rough to me. If you have no problems with that, then yes you can make 2 needle socks. Have fun, and show us your pictures when you are done!

Hi
Here is the pattern I use for socks----I have done and wear a number of pairs. My seam is flat and causes no problem whatsoever to my tender feet.
It's definitely worth your giving it a trial.

So I know who to blame...I had to copy and paste all of these URL entries! I cannot open too many more tabs without closing some. <G>

I did a sock all day workshop at our Knitters Guild yesterday. I did magic loop socks in the round. I managed to finish my sock and learnt how to do Kitchener's stitch as we do top down.

My girlfriend did two circular needles socks and even though I have only ever knitted a pair of socks in a lesson, I could help my girlfriend out. It is a lot easier to do two circular needles if you have arthritis in the hands. It is very similar to magic loop.

I am going to knit the second sock, the only thing I didn't do was count my rows so I have to measure sock against sock. I never use plain colours for my lessons, this yarn was very varigated and looks great.

It was only a small sock, it will fit my two year old granddaughter. All I need is to make another one. As I am the Covenor of the Knitters Guild, I had to go and open the main door and then set up for the meeting with tables and chairs and also do the afternoon tea with two other ladies and at the end of the afternoon, I helped clean up in the lesson room and then packed up the main hall. Boy was I busy, I will never volunteer to afternoon tea when there is a full day lesson again, but I did enjoy it all. Glutton for punishment! Ha! Ha!

I always thought I'd hate socks with a seam in them until I was reading this thread today.

It suddenly struck me that it could be seamed using the baseball stitch, more often called the ball stitch.

When you do it that way, the edges are butted against each other not overlapped or stitched and folded.

If you really want to do socks with seams, try ball stitch!

Here is a page on hand stitching. It pictures the baseball stitch partway down the page. http://www.perestroika.ca/html2/vest/handstitching.php

Something to try with the wedge short-row circles for dishcloths and decoration. Thanks!
