My LYS is 4 mins walk away and she is doing really well. People come from miles around and she sells on the net as well. Only been open 3 years and a decision she does not regret. Lovely lady too.

A bit of both - I do have 2 LYS but one is 6 miles away and the other 10. The nearest one is the best and is very good to my knitting group. She gives us all a discount card 10%, which is great for the more expensive wools. LYS can't stock it all though, so I do shop on line as well.

I go to Poundstretchers or BM, or charity shops. I did get some expensive cotton yarn recently in a lys to knit my granddaughter a cardigan. To my disappointment it stretched around the neck the first time she wore it. Our weekly market also sells yarn but I haven't tried it yet.

Going back to my LYS she also offers a 10% discount for any purchases made. So been saving mine up for the extra something special for this winter I hope.

We do not have a Poundstretcher or a BM round here, and the small local market does not have a stall for anything like wool.

Where do the majority of UK knitters get their wool from nowadays?

Do they still support their local shop like me, or buy from the internet?

I'm quite lucky as I have a number of local sources. Just up the road from me the Post Office shop has just started selling King Cole yarn and there's also a little shop that sells all manner of things has started to stock yarn. There is a lovely LYS a couple of miles away and nearly all the local pound shops and charity shops have some yarn of varying quality.

I do buy on line as well if I can't find what I need locally or if I can get it cheaper.

I do have a fairly local shop that sells the basic wools, actually acrylics (3 ply up to chunky) and if what I am knitting can be done in these I support it but I have to go on line for things like Kid Silk Haze Noro and especially pure wool

Bit of both really. My nearest local is okay. A chain store, C&H Fabrics but they have really good staff who know their stuff and care about it. However it is a daytrip for me (in the wheelchair).
I also buy online from the various online stores as well as Ebay. Oh and another good source is Freecycle. That is gifted and I've got some wonderful yarns, chrochet cotton and other handicraft goodies from there.
