Sorry ladies I forgot your tips on the solution necessary to keep colors from bleeding. I have a pair of socks that have red and white stripes ( knit picks stroll fingering) that I want to wash and try to keep from bleeding. Any help is appreciated.

Well, if you've got leftover yarn, you can try washing it your favorite way and see if it does bleed. At least you'll know if you have the problem or not.

One quart tepid water, 1/2 cup white vinegar, 2T Epsom salts. Soak 20-30 minutes.

You might Google: "Set colors before washing." Many find the Shout color grab sheets work also.
Does this work for fabric too? Or if you have one of those shirts I try NOT to buy that combines light and bold colors could you set those colors?

I was taught this method as a girl many years ago. I've used it for all my family's clothing ever since whenever we acquired some bright colored item, and I don't remember ever losing any clothing due to color running.

Back when I was in home ec we were always told to wash the fabric before pinning out the patterns. We always washed in cold water with 2 cups vinegar and 1/2 cup epsom salts.

I wash almost all fabrics before sewing but I was told to do this to get out the sizing and any excessive dye. This is very good to know. Would have been good to know 40 years ago too!

I am making a striped felted purse. I am thinking I should soak it in a vinegar solution before I wash it in the washer. Then I would wash it in the washer in hot water with a cold rinse as usual. Please let me know if you know a better way. Thanks

I've used a lot of Stroll yarn in all kinds of colors and never had a problem with it bleeding.

Make a swatch and wash it to check if you're worried, though.
