Hi Knitters - I would like to make some nice wash cloths as gifts for the holidays and would like to know if there is a yarn other than Peaches & Cream that I could use for a nice wash cloth - thanks in advance - happy knitting

Just go looking for anything in cotton. Even the mercerised cotton for crochet.

Actually dishes couldn't care what you use on the other hand faces may want something soft. :lol:

Look for 100% cotton yarn. I have a nice selection of cotton yarn because some of the babies I knit for can't have anything else.

I hear Knipicks Dishie is nice and I also have used Hobby Lobby " I Love This Cotton". I know Hobby Lobby is hard to find in your neck of the woods, but they have mail order.

I use sugar & cream which is softer I think than peaches&cream

I sometimes use organic cotton for washcloths and give a nice bar of homemade soap with it for gifts. For dishcloths I've only used Sugar & Cream or Peaches and Cream. Have fun knitting.

I found the Peaches & Cream/Sugar 'n Cream too heavy for wash cloths/dish cloths. I'm using Aunt Lydia's Crochet Thread #3 100% mercerized cotton. I'm using a size 5 knitting needle for a loose weave.
I like the mercerized cotton because it is color fast, and pre-shrunk.

I've only used Sugar & Cream, but I would think any 100% cotton would work.

Tahki Cotton, Berroco Cotton.
Sugar n' Cream, which you can get at Joann's or Michaels, if you live near any of them. The have them in cones, too.

I've been making some from I Love This Yarn Cotton - works up really nice!

I've made bathing cloths from yarn I "made" by winding several threads together. Nice scrubbers/defoliators without being scratchy at all, and they make a nice face cloth if done in a soft cotton.

I too, enjoy the I Love this Cotton from Hobby Lobby. My friend just purchased some Bernat bamboo on-line and it is very soft, I think I will try some, especially for baby washcloths.

Can anyone tell me ... along these same lines... I use the Sugar/Cream for dish cloths, but after a few washings they start to look not as "fresh." If you use this cotton for baby things, won't it look scruffy after the few washings, too? So is there another cotton that you can use for baby things that will hold it's nice, new look? Do you need to use the mercerized cotton in that case? Thanks for the help/advice.

My new favorite for washcloths, spa cloths and soap sacks is Knit Picks 100% organic cotton. It is so soft and wonderful to knit with. I also use "I love This Cotton" from HL. For dishcloths I use P&C, S&C, Bernet Handicrafter or Knit Picks Dishie.

If you are talking for spa/wash cloth I use the Bernat Scents Chamomile is nice palest cross between pink and peach and smells divine - the aloe vera is also very nice.
For wash cloths for dishes I use bernat handicrafter plain no scent. Walmarts/ Michaels sells the handicrafter but not the scents but they sell big rolls of it Michaels only has the small balls. I cast on 5 stitches rather than 4
next row k2 yarn forward knit to end of row keep repeating until 50 stitches otherwise when you wash them they shrink and are too small in my opinion.
