If you are asking about prevention - flu shot.
If you are asking about what to do after contracting the flu, I think all you can do is rest and take some over the counter flu meds. Unfortunately, it has to run it's course. I hope you don't have it and you don't get it.

After getting a really nasty strain of flu 2 yrs ago that set me back 3 weeks I now make sure I get the flu shot. Here we have to pay for it but its worth it.
My doctor said some of her older patients have ended up in hospital for weeks .
Hope you feel better soon.
We are approaching winter here so flu season is awaiting!

If you can get someone to go to the drug store for you get some electrolites. Your body burns through them when you are sick and it can make you worse. Keep drinking LOTS to keep hydrated. Tea chicken soup, water, juice (but not too much as it is acidic). Sleep whenever your body tells you it should and wait it out. I'm sorry you have been sick for two weeks already. Hope you feel better soon =)

It has begun to run a course through this region also .. i've had it a week and a day so far .. fever first 2 days then just annoying cough but good appetite and do drink a lot of fluids .. lots of rest important also .. it seems to surreptitiously drain you renergies ...not noticeable until you need them for some task that normally does not affect you .. sigh !!!

I learned my lesson about getting flu shots years ago. I got the flu, it became pneumonia. I coughed so hard and frequently that I fractured 2 ribs, I now faithfully get my shot immediately when available.

I'm so happy the pharmacies here now give flu shots. I never remember to call for a doctor's appointment for a flu shot, but I notice signs advertising them in pharmacies so get mine there. It's faster with a lot less hassle than going to the doctor.

Good friend of my daughter's was recently put into an induced coma because she had Swine flu. She was 'out' for 3 weeks and it was another 2 weeks before she was moved out of ICU and has not fully recovered yet (still in hospital). Now it seems that the friend's daughter may have it, also. Daughter is being watched very carefully.

The family thought that she was not going to pull thru.
