Recently someone asked about a kit for keeping bamboo and wood needles clean. I can't remember where I saw this kit, but to save money do the following:

Take a piece of wax paper and rub the wax side up and down the needles. This will help clean the needles and give them a glow. Beeswax from a sewing store can also be used.

Happy knitting. :)

Thanks! I'll check it out. I'm an ex-quilter. I have a disc of beeswax I used to wax my quilting thread. Will that do as well? I used the wax paper last evening an a couple pairs of bamboo needles...better, but could be even better! Thanks! You are a big help!

Found the kit!!! Thanks!! Will check it out after I return from Prayer Shawl Retreat this weekend! I'm sure I will have other things on my 'must have list' when I return. We are meeting at a Methodist church retreat in rural part of Texas Hill Country! Hope the Texas Bluebonnets are out. Clair lives near there. Wish I could run across that funky lady as I'm sort of funky too if I'm away from my daughter who is very conservative! Thanks for the helpful information. They are always welcome! I'm making bookmarks for children who join the church this spring! Tiny needles tiny thread, tiny item after knitting prayer shawls with bulky yarn! Whole new ball game but the prayers are the same!! Remind the children that they can always pray!

Thanks for the info on wooden needle upkeep!!!! My husband gave me quite a few sets of walnut needles for my birthday one year. I just love them! They are just wonderful, have a bit of "give" to them so they are the most comfortable needles I've ever used! He enjoys watching me use them too as they are very beautiful!

I was wondering about keeping my bamboo needles in good shape.
Someone told me to take very fine sand paper and work on the tip and the side. I like the wax paper idea better. I will have to get some beeswax the next time I am out. Thanks for the great ideas.

did your husband make your walnut needles or buy them. i would love to purchase some. how unique!
He bought them for me.....my goodness about 13 years ago! They are made by a company called Brittany. The card on them says they are in Placerville, CA. I have size 4, 5, 5 1/2, 6, 7, 8! All the sizes I use most! Whoever advised him knew their needles! Also says..."produced by one American craftsman using the finest Eastern Black Walnut." Don't know what they cost, but I'm sure they were a pretty penny! If you find any, GET them as you will not be disappointed. Mine are all 14" long....so I can do sweaters on them!

I just looked them up on the web....and I don't see that they still offer the walnut ones.....wonder what's up with that? Anyway...unless I need circular needles, I knit exclusively with these. I'll bet the birchwood ones are awesome too! Some knitting shops recommend wood for people with arthritis because they do not drain heat from your fingers.

I think so....but then that might just be my personal preference. I sure hope they still make the because they are so wonderful. If anything ever happens to mine, I'd sure like to replace them!

Goodness....just tried to Google walnut needles, and apparently they aren't made anymore....and the ones I saw on a bidding site were already sold. Wonder what happened....maybe disease and loss of trees? I'll take extra good care of mine!
