I see so many beautiful shawls done and they are of different styles and made of different yarns. My question is....do you who make them wear them and where? Are they worn every day for casual? Dress? Worn the traditional way or worn as a scarf or some other way? Just wondering. I would wear mine casually with jeans but think I might hear snickers as I walk by people.

I wear mine just about everywhere.......
As it is usually very warm here - the restaurants & stores are VERY COLD with Air Conditioning...... so I wear them like a typical shawl...... with everything.......
I also Love to wear mine with my summer dresses for an evening out when it starts to get chilly.... or just BECAUSE..

Have you seen the shawlettes that they wear in reverse like a cowl neckline over white tee shirts and jeans? Especially nice with large open work stitches and variegated denim colored yarns. Similar to the old smaller bandana.

Here in AZ it is getting really hot, but the restaurants, doctors offices and other places can be cold with all the air conditioning on. I try to keep a shawl in my van etc, just in case I get cold inside. I have made three so far and continue to do make them using up all my scrap yarn. Also if someone else is very cold I can offer it to them and say Keep It. Most people are shocked but love them I have seen them being worn again and again, so I know they are loved.

Shawls can (and should) be worn anywhere and every where. What you imagine might be snickers are sounds of envy and/or admiration from others who just wish they had something as lovely on their shoulders!

I don't wear a shawl ... in the shower. That's about the only place none of my shawls go. I won't wear one while working on a bicycle; bicycle grease is not yarn-friendly. I wear them while shopping, while sitting watching TV or on the computer, while sleeping (not always, but sometimes), - just everywhere.

Mind, I am not a fashion plate. My 'style' is t-shirts,jeans/shorts, and flip-flops. "Dressing up" for me means a logo-free t-shirt and stretch yoga-type pants. My grandmother would have been horrified to see that the little girl she hoped would grow into a 'lady' hasn't.;)

Hahahahahahaha Jessica-Jean you made me laugh out loud! I think my mother would be appalled at my dress today. Some days I stay in my pjs all day long but I usually have a shawl on my shoulders because I have to keep the air so cold that I nearly freeze.

And, to those who snicker and giggle at your mode of dress, just give them your best Scarlet O'Hara look and wrinkle up your nose like you smell a skunk!!! They are just envious that they don't have a lovely shawl to wear with your jeans.
Dress as you enjoy and to heck with everyone else. Please yourself.

I wear them everywhere, with everything. And the cold stores and restaurants, we have the same problem. It can be 100 degrees outside and I carry a shawl into all sorts of places then slip it on as I go in the door. Can't tell you how many times I've heard women in thin strap tops tell their friends that I had a great idea.

Shawls are one of the most feminine and graceful articles of clothing a woman can wear. How lucky are we that they are also very functional! Shawls are extremely popular here in Las Vegas all year round. Our winters are mild and so shawls are worn outdoors to keep the chill off and in the hot summer months shawls are perfect to keep off the chill from A/C. We have an new arts center here that is very uptown. The patrons dress to the nines when attending an event. Being a knitter I have noticed and admired all the shawls and wraps I see coming and going - some are very simple and elegant, others are blinged out to the max. I see tourists wearing shawls up and down the Las Vegas Strip - perfect with jeans and perfect when all dressed up - again, this time of year shawls are perfect for entering and exiting the air conditioned casinos - easy on and easy off, can be wrapped around the waist, tied to a handbag, or tucked away in a purse/tote when too warm to wear outdoors. So make it, wear it, and strut your stuff girl! With a shawl you will always be prepared for any type of weather and will always look sophisticated and stylish.

There are so many different ways to wear shawls, which are sometimes referred to as "wraps." I have made a few for myself and wear them over my dresses on Sunday morning to church, and even over jacket dresses, especially when the air conditioning is working in overdrive. I am very cold natured so shawls are perfect to take along. Yes, I wear them with jeans, dress pants, skirts, etc.

Enjoy your shawls! Also, they make lovely gifts for people who like them, and especially for seniors!

Grandma might not have gotten her "Lady" but she sure got one good Woman, Personally I think she would have been proud.

Not an Aussie thing

I know no one who would wear a shawl. In fact I know no one who would wear a cardigan instead of a tailored jacket.(Except me) LOL
Hmmmm...when I was last in Sydney I saw at least 10 elegantly dressed women wearing absolutely stunning shawls. Some were lace knits, some were woven, but all were lovely. One very stylish woman had hers over one shoulder and fastened at her waist by a wide belt.

If what people think worries you then don't wear a shawl, if you are happy with yourself wear a shawl with pride especially if you have knit it. I wear mine everywhere, that's why I knit ir & proud of the ones I have knit.
I agree. I wear mine everywhere and I get compliments. Not snickers! I wear them with jeans, to work and anywhere I please.
