Hi, Y'all,
My daughter and I just got home from shopping for a wedding dress. It is gorgeous. It has a lace bodice, with a full train, and beading all the way around the hem. It looked great, then the sales woman added the veil. I thought my daughter was going to cry. She tried on four dresses; two were strapless, and two had shoulder straps. The dress had straps. You don't want to worry about it falling down. I'll post a picture later when I can get my DH to get it off of my phone when he gets home.

Her matron on honor is 9 weeks pregnant after miscarrying the month before she got pregnant this time. She just came from the doctor and heard the heart beat on the sonogram. You could see a little bitty person on the picture. We found a royal purple dress that would accommodate the baby, too, in a month for the wedding.

My dress is teal. Yes, it is a mother dress, but it is long with a lace jacket over a sleeveless dress. I was surprised that it was a size smaller than I normally wear. I thought I'd get green to go with the purple. I could not get Aggie maroon. We'll all go for fittings next week.

My DD was shocked at the prices, but everything is expensive these days. I paid $100 at Foleys thirty seven years ago. It was a fourteen, and did not have to be altered. Boy, was I surprised. The wedding dresses today seemed to run small. Her dress was four sizes bigger, and it needed to be taken up in the bodice. I was shocked at the size. Four Sizes Bigger!!! I know what she wears, but gee!!

Oh, well, it will do the job. She finally got her engagement ring today after the store lost it when it was being resized. She was nearly hysterical yesterday. It was sent to the big Sears at the Galleria on the other side of Houston. It was a $1300 ring set that they got for $500. I thought they did well. Sears marks things down to 70% off sometimes. The big day is July 5.

Oh joy! I'm excited for you....being the mother of the bride. My daughter picked out the 1st dress she tried on...it was perfect. When we went to look for my dress & also the groom's mom I told my dd I refused to pay more for my dress than her dress. Dd walked up to a rack of "mother's" dresses, brought 1 over to me, I tried it on, it fit perfectly...I loved it....no alterations needed at all, like it was tailor made for me.....& it cost less than her dress!
The other mom's dress was somewhat like mine, long sleeveless dress & tailored jacket, mine was teal, her's was pinkish/rose. That color was perfection for her as she had pale blond hair & fair skin. This is bringing back such wonderful memories.

Congrats, and keep smiling, no matter what, remember regardless of how stressed you may eventually feel this is a wonderful day. And when you get a chance, remind your daughter as well.

Good for you getting all the dresses bought. I remember my daughter 's wedding dress was a size bigger than I would have thought then they took it in. Maybe it's so they can alter to a perfect fit but I felt the size smaller would have been fine.

I hope you have a wonderful day

My dress was on sale at Laura Ashley's in the 80's. I went in, tried it on and bought it . Dirt cheap and the only one I tried on anywhere. As it was a sale dress it was two sizes too large. The saleslady and other customers were quite shocked, but I just said "This one please". A lovely lady at work did the alterations.

How can you tell I'm a bit of a tomboy

I also bought the only dress I tried on. I regret it now as I was so slim in those days, yet I wore a dress which was empire line. I wish I'd worn something fitted around my 24" waist!

Great shopping day! I am going to Denton in July for my oldest GD wedding. I hate to shop for clothes and DH kept after me to get something for the wedding so I finally broke down and went to Old Pueblo Traders here in Tucson. Found a pink 2 piece dress that I liked within 10 minutes of walking in the door.
Told DH I refused to pay a lot for a dress I would only wear once. Well, I had a coupon, dress was on sale. Would you believe $5.00? Actually, I did find 2 I liked, so I got both at that same price. I told DH if I never wear the lavender one, I still came out ahead.
