I was wondering if I should make it a tad longer and also make my own buttons. I have a red head much like this with a birthday 1 week of August! What should I use. Maddie has a bit of an allergy to wool but I like look of this yarn. I may change to blue or purple her favorite colors. I can easily sew easy skirt.

Debbie Bliss patterns typically run large; in fact, I cannot use them for my healthy GGDs because there is just too much girth. I am always tempted because the styles look so nice. But sizing down by removing stitches from cable patterns takes so much brain power and there are so many free patterns on Ravelry that I just go that route these days.

That is a really cute pattern, and I can see why you say you would add some length. It looks like she would have a bare midriff with movement.

This pattern appears to fit the model better than most Bliss patterns, but how many clips do they have holding it in on the back to give that appearance?

I think the color is great and very "de bon ton;" would look super on a red head.

I think it's adorable! I agree, I would make it a little longer. If she raises her arms I think it would show her midriff. Also, if Bliss patterns run large in the girth, you could end up with a short, wide sweater. I would strongly recommend making a swatch, knitting in your most relaxed and natural manner, so that you can see how it will fit her. Another good color for a redhead would be a pretty peach. Good luck!

I think you will find it is a short, boxy style although it looks quite fitted in the pattern. I have just done a 6 to 12 month Debbie Bliss cardigan in the cable/teddy design and the finished measurement given in the pattern is over 24 " around the chest!

Debbie Bliss patterns are also full of errors. I gave up on her and threw her books in the recycling bin.
Ditto here. I made the cutest lavender silk shrug from Debbie Bliss in Vogue magazine. I ended up figuring out the cables and decreases of the fronts, sleeves, and backs. I finished it but...and the Debbie Bliss yarn was horrible to work with as it had knots and thick and thins. I noted that in an earlier msg this morning.

If it helps your decision at all, this is the Ravelry page, and that page has links to 8 projects so you can see how it really looks without any trickery of a photo shoot (not that they used any for the magazine, but that's often the case). http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cable-and-lace-cardigan-10

As mentioned in this thread, the first photo has a girl raising her arm, midriff in full view.

Thanks. I was worried because in Texas kids where this in Sept, October to school and unless she has something definitely underneath it would be trouble. I know Debbie Bliss's patterns. I usually read them, scan them and the changes I want or prompts for my own notes. I just love a lot of things she comes up with. I have not made Madeline something for awhile so it's her turn and she has made that known with little hints : )

I thought I would share a link to the picture. You gave the information needed for us to view the picture. However, I am no help with your question.
Thanks for the link. I spied the "free patterns" link and bookmarked it. The little girls sweater is very cute. Wish I had somebody (female) to make it for them; I have all little grandsons.
