For $1.85 from Goodwill, I bought what I, not having thoroughly examined it, thought was a hand-knit baby blanket. White. A bit fuzzy. Fisherman’s Rib. SOFT. With a sparkly strand.
It has a bunch of pulls/snags, which may be why it was donated. Or maybe the owner had no more idea than I how to wear it?
At home, I examined it closely.
Oops! Not hand-made! I guess there are industrial knitting machines that can do Fisherman’s Rib; I didn’t know.
Sold by H&M. Made in China. A five-page, multilingual, ribbon-fabric tag sewn into one seam.
Essentially, it’s two rectangular pieces of fabric seamed edge to edge to make a tube.
Cast-on to cast-off is 27”.
Edge to edge is 35”.
The edges were seamed on a linker, not serged.
(Linker makes a slip-stitch chain with a single strand of yarn:
Commercial linker:
Home linker:
)
The seams aren’t as stretchy as the fabric. The cast-on and bind-off edges are even less elastic.
Because it’s labelled as ‘one size’ and only garments are so labelled, I’m wondering just how one is expected to wear it. Just a super-sized cowl? As a kind of shrug?
In the meantime, it’s a warm cozy laprobe and has received Thunder’s approval. I don’t think I’ll be unravelling it for the yarn, unless I ever run out of yarn.
