Where can I find the best deals for yarn? I have tried to compare prices between Amazon, Walmart and Hobby Lobby but I have just confused myself because they all have so much to choose from. I have several baby blankets to make and need to really stock up without breaking the bank on my "cheap hobby". ;)

Church bazaars, estate sales, garage sales, eBay, and second-hand stores have been my main source of yarn for the last couple of decades. My stash in that time has grown from a shoebox to a couple of rooms stuffed full!
It also can't hurt to place ads on local bulletin boards asking for yarn. You would be surprised how many homes had a yarny person who's now gone and those left behind haven't a clue what to do with all that yarn! Another possibility is to ask on Freecycle and/or Craig's List. If you don't ask, you'll never know.

because of health I do my yarn shopping on line. I am on ss and alone. so I budget everything. I spend less than a hundred dollars a month and buy lovely yarn from www.yarnparadise.com I watch for sales..this month I got 24 skeins of 100grs each. for 84.oo that was with shipping.so it averaged out at 3.50 each..which is better than the 2 stores we have in this area..joann's and wal-mart and I get it in 3 days..has anyone else ordered from here and what is your opinion...thanks

I've gotten yarn from

freecycle.org - I posted that I needed yarn to make charity items and I got a very large bag of misc yarn (it smelled of cat urine, so I machine washed the yarn in a vinegar solution, and then it smelled wonderful) (free isn't always perfect)

and

craigslist.org - I search for "yarn" and I sometimes find some good deals after haggling (I once got 7 skeins of pound of love for $30)

and

yardsales.net - I search for "yarn" and once in awhile I'll find something (last week I got a large tub of yarn for $25, it included 2 pounders, 6 variegated, 8 homespun, 10 cotton and some misc)(that was my jackpot!!)

It takes awhile searching online. I think I get good deals about 4 times a year. I enjoy traveling and going to yard sales, it's my hobby too.

I have ordered from them for several years and been very satisfied with the price and quality of their yarns.

I checked free-cycle and we didn't have anything in my area. I do belong to a few local trading pages on Facebook, I didn't think to check there. Also, if I find yarn at garage sales etc. How do I wash it before I use it? Hand wash? in a bag in the washing machine? Thanks for your help :)
