Why I try to support LYS

Today I went to a yarn shop located in LaGrange Il to purchase a set of needles. I was looking at yarn to use for preemie hats for a NICU. After a conversation with the women who was helping me, they brought out 4 beautiful blankets to add to my donations. I could not believe the generosity of this shop owner. I can't let this go unnoticed in the too often callous world. If you are ever in LaGrange Il, visit this wonderful shop.

So happy to see this good report on my favorite yarn store. The folks there are friendly and encouraging, and they have a lovely yarn selection. Right in my neighborhood, too!
i just cut out of our local paper an advertisement that i haven't seen before...'Knitting Criations,60 Springfield Rd.,Somers,CT...860-749-4005.....www.KnittingCriations.com....i live in Chicopee,Ma. it should be approx 1--1 1/2 hrs to get there with all the road constructions going on and how the traffic really is....i have WEBS in Northampton BUT right there, there is construction going on...a round- about is being put in...and altho there are alternatives...ALL traffic converges right there....OH!! hours are:Tues/Wed/Thurs 10-6---Fri/Sat 10-5---Sun 12-4...looked at map and it is where 83 and 190 meet...east of Enfield & Hazardville,CT...S/SE of LOngmeadow,Ma. must go for a Sunday drive...hope this helps anyone looking for a new place to spend money....
I also like to patronize LYS. The one In Piyalup is closing, I heard. That is so sad.
Most people are truly good at heart. the funny part is most of them don't know it.
That lys has got it goin' on! Kudos to them!
I too like to patronize my LYS. Spinnin'Yarns in Griffith Indiana. The owner is so helpful and there are knitting groups all the time! She also has classes and does spinning and weaving. the yarns are great, and she can order anything that you want if it's not already in stock. ????
Our LYS in Lafayette, LA also generously supports local causes. In a recent initiative our local food bank executive director (Food Net of Acadiana) challenged organizations/groups to donate 100 cans of protein rich food and our LYS participated. LYS owners announced that for a can of food donated at their shop there would be a 5% shopping discount. As knitters came but forgot their cans the shop owners allowed the shoppers to purchase a can from a case they (LYS owners) had bought and donate it back to them to give to Food Net's challenge and thus be able to get their 5% discount. I thought this to be very clever and generous solution thus making it a win-win situation.
The name of the yarn shop is "Idea Studio Yarn".

Fiona. ????????????
Whenever I go on vacation, one of the first things I do is get the LYS locator hopping. I'm a true believer in supporting this industry. Can't always make a purchase in every shop, but stop at as many as I can to see the knitted items displayed, yarn lines featured, and small talk with owners about their towns. So glad my husband puts up with me and my hobby.
The Idea Studio is located north of Route 34 (Ogden AV) and south of 31st st. Their phone # is 708 352 1789. I'm sure they can direct you. Great shop. Enjoy.
I treasure the LYS in Danville, California. When you walk in you are greeted with a happy hello not only from the proprietor but those sitting around a table knitting and chatting. The name is very clever, "A Yarn Less Raveled". If interested you can check them out on the web as they do sell on line.
The best part of this is that it is not the store I usually go to. I live about 90 min north of there and go to the LYS in my town. They did this for a first timer to their shop.!But I will return. If you live in LaGrange, lucky you. It is just beautiful! Worth the trip just to see the lovely vintage homes and the many wonderful shops and restaurants.
I try to support the LYS in our town. We need rhem

The Shop is called: The Idea Studio
515 S La Grange Rd, La Grange Il
They have wonderful yarn, beads, and buttons. Large work area as well. Very nice shop. I understand 7 less yarn shops on Chicago area yarn crawl this year. Very sad.
That's wonderful! I will put them on my list of places to visit as we travel. Thank you for sharing.
I used to live in the Chicago suburbs, but I never knew about yarn shops then... what little knitting I did, I'm sure I purchased the yarn from some type of box store. But I live in Las Vegas, NV now, and I frequent "Sin City Knit Shop"... what a wonderful store!!!
The owner, Debbie, is the sweetest woman, and the man/women who work there go out of their way to help, in any way they can.
They have open knitting all week, and most nights, lessons, crochet classes/projects, we do charity work sometimes, and there is always a lively group meeting to talk & knit up a storm! Drop in if you ever come to town~
That is so generous and it is uplifting to hear about this, thank you for sharing.

Many thanks, Maggieber, that just about pin-points it for me.

Time for a "road trip".

Enjoy your day.
I am putting this on my list to visit next time I visit my sister in Wheaton, Ill.

Kudos to this shopkeeper! I don't think you'd get that response from Joann or Michaels. . . which also serve a purpose. But you won't get the same friendly greeting there as you would from a great LYS.

We are very lucky here in northern NJ to have several great shops.
Anyone know a great LYS in North Jersey? I went to the store in Maplewood until it closed last year.
