Do you think it would be possible to make a clear wool? Think how useful it would be for sewing our items together, not to have to worry if a thread shows! I guess it would have to be synthetic but lots of our wool is anyway. I would be absolutely delighted if one of you says there is such a thing.

Yep it is. And I know they make clear(ish) thread, which is like filament, or may be it is filament... but I've always wondered, can you sew you're knitting with that? Would it make a mess when washing or drying it??

Wool comes from sheep, so no, they're not going to "make" clear wool anytime soon.

There is a brand of yarn made of plastic in many colors and clear. I can't remember the name. It had "jelly" in the name somewhere.

So there is yarn available that is clear.

If only on the practical side, I learned in home ec, oh those many years ago, not to use polyester or nylon yarn when sewing cotton fabric... I was told keep like to like.. If the fabric was cotton, the thread should be cotton as well.. Or at least the cotton-covered polyester thread that was available then. The clincher being that the artificial fibers were stronger than the natural fiber, and could tend to actually cut the cotton fabric if stress were placed on the stitches.. So I would be afraid of the same thing happening with nylon thread used to sew up my wool knitting.

Knitting with some of the novelty yarns might work just fine..

And if this is totally a fantasy topic, we could breed invisible sheep, and surely THEIR wool would be able to sew up any of our wool knitting!!

If you sew up using invisible wool, at least you wouldn't have to worry about it not matching

When I first read that, for a moment I thought you were trying to make that fairy tale, The Emperor's New Clothes come true. Would you really want to wear invisible clothes? It might be nice to wear clothes that are invisible in certain areas, but strategically covered in other areas.

Years ago, my daughter made some drawings of small faces and labeled them. There was a space between them in which she had labeled "the invisible man" I showed my husband and said "cute huh"? He replied "yeah". I said "did you see the invisible man"? He shook his head that he had. I said "no you didn't".

My wish is even more simpler than that. Please make it easier to find the inside end to a skein of yarn.

Perhaps we need to make spider yarn more available and less expensive! I would certainly like to experiment with some of it. Here is an article of a shawl made from the silk from a golden orb spider. It's not an uncolored silk but perhaps other spiders could produce the clear silk.

Perhaps small skeins of finer yarn in the same colour and fiber content would be good for sewing up, less bulky seams. I know you can split thicker wool but that always weakens it.

While we're at it, how about a button you could push every time you find a knot in the yarn that would zap the people in quality control? One knot I can live with but five in one ball? I complained and the company sent replacement yarn that also had knots in it! Ok, my off-topic rant is done...
