I have just received the latest Which computer magazine and this article may be of interest to the members who were discussing XP
last week I don't know if it is of any help but I though I would share. In the next addition in August they will be running an article "Windows 8.1 made easy" I personally am looking forward to this

Oh. Windows 8. I got a new laptop recently with windows 8 and I hate it. I wish I could replace it with xp but I am stuck with it. I know I sound ungrateful for such an expensive gift. I'm not and it was bought with good intentions but it is so complicated compared with what I had. Moan over!

Will have to try and get a copy of Which.

Windows 8? Make sure you update to 8.1, makes life much easier. I love it now-that from a 65 year old who gave her daughter the first lap top to her daughter because I didn't want to learn it! Then when I had to get another, was forced to buy 8.0 laptop. The learning curve was very steep and fast! You can do this.

Dell has a free PDF Windows 8 for Dummies, it might help you a little. I helped someone with a new computer that had 8, and at first it drove me crazy, but now that I know where everything is, I can find my way much easier.

I started on Windowws 1-2-3, which I loved. Always hated all those upgrades because I don't like to have to learn new tech in order to do what's really important to me. I hated it when first got Win 8, but now I'm kinda warming up to it. It's taken me 6 months, though.

Wow - I started with the old DOS system, then Win 95, Win 98, Win XP, Win 7, Win 8 and finally Win 8.1 and I too am 79 learning this new system. Keeps the old brain active.

this is exactly why I got this new laptop. I didn't want to change, I remember XP was a mess to change to also, but now I am older and after having a head injury it's so hard for me to learn new stuff, I hate it.

Me too. I'm 75 + 10.5 mos., and I'm now having to learn 8.1 with a brand new computer that my son gave me on Mother's Day. Yippee!

It does keep our brain working... It's a faster pace... I remember Gregg shorthand and typing on a manual... Underwood, even. LOL

But, up until Mothers Day... I had XP and loved it. Bye, bye, XP.. :-(

Got a new computer in January with Windows 8. Updated to 8.1 about a month ago and am slowly becoming more comfortable with it. Lots of changes from other versions, no doubt about it. There is a definite steep learning curve. I use the tutorials a lot and also bought a book which helped quite a bit. Age is no excuse...I'm almost 80!
