I would like to know what is the best yarn to use for doll hair? One I can brush and won't be curly? Any ideas or suggestions?
Lol... Thanks Jessica-Jean. I don't like eyelash yarn either. I am making a replica of a colleague and she has very straight hair so it would have to be kind of smooth. Do you think 100% wool could be ironed and 'combed' ?Jessica-Jean said:The novelty stuff I hate to knit: eyelash 'yarn'.
I'm not familiar enough with wool's attributes to say, but I suspect it wouldn't last long under repeated combing. If the hair needs to be long, I'd shop on eBay for doll hair. If short, I'd still look at some of the eyelash yarns.Donnathomp said:Lol... Thanks Jessica-Jean. I don't like eyelash yarn either. It could be "combed" with fingers, but not with a comb or brush.Donnathomp said:Lol... Thanks Jessica-Jean. I don't like eyelash yarn either. Thanks. The hair will be just brushed once. It isn't meant to be a toy. Or even if I can iron it or use my flat iron.Hilary4 said:It could be "combed" with fingers, but not with a comb or brush.
To use yarn, you would need something really silky and a comb with very rounded, widely-spaced teeth.
Now this is an idea to consider. The doll is done in crochet. Thanks.seamer45 said:How about embroidery floss if the doll isn't too big. Otherwise I'd go for regular doll hair. For the floss you might use nylon net as a base for a wig type application.
Welcome to Knitting Paradise. I can tell that you are going to fit right in; you are offering to help someone else in your first post. I have a ready supply, if you need some. Please contact off line.... Carolyn Penny
I didn't mean I wanted to be able to comb the hair all the time. Just the one time to set the style. Thanks for the tip.Tove said:I've made many cloth dolls with yarn hair. Yarn hair is not meant to be combed.
If you want hair to be able to be combed, get an acrylic doll wig (from e-bay) - they come pre-styled in an array of colours and hair lengths.
I have made wigs out of long-haired fun fur. I usually thin out the fun fur with thinning scissors otherwise it does not look right. The fun fur can be combed and styled ..... just not too often.![]()
Good luck, hope to see your final productDonnathomp said:I didn't mean I wanted to be able to comb the hair all the time. Just the one time to set the style. Thanks for the tip.
