The novelty stuff I hate to knit: eyelash 'yarn'.
Lol... Thanks Jessica-Jean. I don't like eyelash yarn either. I am making a replica of a colleague and she has very straight hair so it would have to be kind of smooth. Do you think 100% wool could be ironed and 'combed' ?

I'm not familiar enough with wool's attributes to say, but I suspect it wouldn't last long under repeated combing. If the hair needs to be long, I'd shop on eBay for doll hair. If short, I'd still look at some of the eyelash yarns.

Good luck!

It could be "combed" with fingers, but not with a comb or brush.
To use yarn, you would need something really silky and a comb with very rounded, widely-spaced teeth.

Thanks. The hair will be just brushed once. It isn't meant to be a toy. Or even if I can iron it or use my flat iron.

I have bought a brown fleck 100% wool to knit my dolls hair. I chose the fleck as it is the closest to the colour on the pattern. The dolls hair I am doing is combed down and goes into plaits at the side of her hair so 100% wool is ideal in my view for what I am making.

Some use Suri alpaca fiber for doll hair. It can come in long strands in colors ranging from white/cream to grey to lovely fawns, browns, and black. I have a ready supply, if you need some. Please contact off line. :) ... Carolyn Penny

I've made many cloth dolls with yarn hair. Yarn hair is not meant to be combed.
If you want hair to be able to be combed, get an acrylic doll wig (from e-bay) - they come pre-styled in an array of colours and hair lengths.
I have made wigs out of long-haired fun fur. I usually thin out the fun fur with thinning scissors otherwise it does not look right. The fun fur can be combed and styled ..... just not too often. :)

Thank you..... I have watched conversations here for years and have learned much vicariously from you all, just watching in. Guess it is about time to be a living, breathing entity. Ha!

I purchased a significant amount of suri this spring, purchase and trade in yarns produced. I am creating a "herd" bowl of yarn to pay the balance of this acquirement ..... still working on it. I created a crocheted bowl of Llama, "Justin", their protector llama and I am working through the creation of 17 different skeins of yarn, one for each animal -- that I must finish soon, as I have a backlog of 5 farms' fiber currently I am processing so far this season.

My first foray into the world of suri, I have been alternating spinning suri with easier fair. The fiber is heavy, no crimp, reminds me of a small child's hair.

Just want to make another thought about yarn doll hair.
I've made a cloth doll and for hair, I purchased a hand-knit sweater at a second hand store. I frogged as much yarn as I needed. It made incredible curly hair. :)

I didn't mean I wanted to be able to comb the hair all the time. Just the one time to set the style. Thanks for the tip.
