Cotton can get heavy, so I would look for one that is called pima, mercerized or Egyptian or one that is blended with bamboo or tencel or even acrylic. But the warning already posted about drape is so true. If you don't want a drapey look, stick with a true cotton. I made a lacy T out of a cotton/tencel last summer and it was wonderful to work with, soft and a bit drapy but not too much so. The tencel keeps the cotton from being too weighty, and helps keep it from going out of shape, which plain cotton can easily do.
I love Spud and Chloe Fine for summer. It is a wool/silk blend that is very lightweight and comfy next to the skin. The colors are wonderful too. I find that cotton alone is too stiff and bamboo alone is too limp. Silk blends are prefered by my 3 girls.
