Someone put on a u tube link to crochet a sort of bubble stitch (unfortunately I can't remember the name of it - but after chaining a number of stitches you crocheted into the back of the chain stitches and it made them sort of look rounded, but unfortunately I can't find the link again and can't remember how to do it. Can anyone else remember please?

You might be talking about a popcorn stitch,,,,just google !!!!

Yep it is popcorn stitch.
I have been crocheting some squares for a blanket this pattern require 6 treble ( or double crochet) then take the hook and put it into the top of the 1st stitch and then pull though the loop. This will make the popcorn. Some patterns that I have come across use 5 treble or 5 double crochet. Hope the helps
