I just looked up details for a 3 ply yarn .
50grams = 1.7637 yards
230metres per ball or 251.531 yards
3 mm needles or between 2 and 3 USA size
Tension 32 sts and 40 rows should produce a 10x10 cm square but really tension is not so important with a shawl.

I assure you that 3 ply is finer than fingering .I do test knitting for an American lady and use 4 ply sometimes to replace fingering but I think the 4 ply is slightly thicker than fingering .The 3 ply I used recently has 3 strands of yarn twisted together whereas the 4 ply has 4 strands .
This lady I test knit for commented that different makes of yarn can have varying lengths per 50gram skein /ball .

Check what stitch is used and leave the bead off .It may be k,p ,or some other stitch.I have done quite a lot of beaded work but not always put the bead on the stitch.

3 ply is finer than fingering .7 oz is similar to 200grams ,as near as you can get .I use a conversion site to change weight or length.Are you able to get any Patons yarn in your area .I actually prefer Sirdar but tend to go with man made for baby items as the laundering is so easy .
Other yarn makes available in the U.K. which you may be able to get are James Brett ,Robin ,Peter Pan .
Please send a private message if you think I can help you with this .I am making baby stuff for a neighbour and have found there are very few colours available in 3 ply .

Lacy blankets not recommended for babies. Fingers and toes can get caught in holes. Blankets not advised for babies till older. Make hats and booties. Raining on your parade.

This has been said very many times but I have never seen any story about this being the case .Thousands of babies have been wrapped in lacy blankets , over the years , and I think this will continue .

I think Ravelry is a good resource BUT some of the designers are closing their Ravelry accounts so you will not be able to check anything if they do that .

My feelings would have been hurt also but on the other hand cabins are not always sound proof. I would rather have strangers next door to me rather than friends.

Totally agree with your statement . If the neighbours annoy you it is better that they are not friends who you are travelling with .Cabins eight doors away is near enough I assure you.
